MPD is not a bad place to work. I have enjoyed my career here.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Be Honest & Dedicated

Officers are training when they really are not ready to train. Chain of command thins they know everything and lacks attention to their trainees. Academy instructors have been training for years when they should be switched out and replaced with others that have been on the streets keeping up with trends. The moral of officers are pretty low behind closed doors, everyone is constantly talking about leaving the department and only their because that is the only job that pays anything in Montgomery. This department does not have the respect they should on the streets as far as taking care of business. Civilians think they are a joke. Everyone I know who has L.E. experience and not from that area really dislikes the way they do things. They are not about taking care of business like a police officer should in such crime infested areas.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Check out the Sheriff's department. MPD is not too bad of a department, but I am not from the south and hated how they did things. Everyone not from Montgomery or Alabama felt that way that I have spoken with. Do what you want though, don't let anybody or me turn you away from what you want to do. You have to experience for yourself.

The hiring process is painless and easy for the most part. The pay is great compared to some agencies I looked into in the past. Stability is great considering they need officers and the chance for advancement is better here than some other agencies that I have seen in the past.

Advice for prospective applicants:

Great place to work. The academy is going to get the best of you if your not a latereral transfer, but the pay is great and the pay all of your school for your masters and blachors degree except for books, and you don't have to sign an agreement to do so many years with the department for the schooling.

Based upon over sixteen years service with the Montgomery Police Department.

Advice for prospective applicants:

This department offers great benefits along with one of the top rated training academies in the southeastern region of the country. For this area the starting pay is very good. This department is a excellent choice for any young person interested in law enforcement career.

We probably have the same problems all other P.D.'s have. To many politics trying to get re-elected to really worry about trying to make a difference for thier community or Officers. Being a little on the outspoken side I lowered my stability rating, but i just can't help it. Not only do I try to protect those who can't protecet themselves but also my brothers and sisters that may be afraid to stand up for themselves against their administration.

Advice for prospective applicants:

MPD is again probably the typical PD. If your looking to come to work here.... come on.... we need the help, just make sure you are willing to do your part. Pay is not bad for the area and they will pay your tuition for Criminal Justice degree at a fair school (Auburn Universty at Montgomery)

They are great back-ujp for federal Agencies in Wash. area. The pay is great, the standards are high. They don't take just anyone.

Good pay, fairly stable and a smaller department, so advancement is somewhat limited.

Advice for prospective applicants:

There is alot of things that I could chosen to do in my life but I chose to become a Police. I' ve learned over the years that this job is not for everyone, but if you think this job is your calling, then I recomend this Department. It's great!
