- About Me:
- Been in LE for nearly 15 years. Mostly patrol but got 2 yrs. working undercover looking like a lost Deadhead. It was great but I wouldn't want to buy dope ever again if I could help it. I risk getting shot so a dope dealer can get probation or a lame couple years? Risk not worth the reward, unless you are an adreneline junkie--which I was. My wife was the happiest person on earth when I cut my hair, went back in uniform and told her I didn't have to work in strip clubs anymore. I have been in the Detective Section for almost two years and I am hoping they forget that I am there. I have nothing against working Road Patrol but after you wager it all in a Homicide or Rape case, and someone ends up doing major time, writing traffic tickets just can't be the same anymore. Despite the rumors, you take more work and baggage home with you as a detective than patrol cop. I spend a lot of time reading reports wishing the road guys knew what I knew, and struggle to find a non ego-threatening way to tell them. Perhaps that is why I have no desire to supervise, though I feel like I should start thinking about it. I absolutely love music. I am a hack guitar player but a bigger fan. I realize most of the bandsmay be in conflict with LE work but that's just me. The first song I actively remember as a little kid was Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin, and I was in the back seat of my dad's Pontiac Catalina. My dad had a pretty good record and 8-track collection, what we would call Classic Rock today: Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bad Co., etc. In high school, I bought my first guitar, a shitty Strat knock-off and a Peavy amp. Smoke on the Water was probably my first song, and I worked on some Neil Young and Rolling Stones until I couldn't find out how to do Open G tuning, wasn't in any Mel Bay books. I went into the army right out of H.S., and went to Germany for a couple years, then TX and to College. I have worked as a Corrections Deputy for three years in Hamilton County, OH Patrol Officer in a Montgomery County OH suburb for 10, and finally Detective in the same department. I am also active as a Union Steward and get to help negotiate a contract this fall. I can hardly wait (not). I picked up a guitar again in 2004 and did a years worth of lessons and I try and pick it up by ear or off tab that I find online. I am a huge fan of Paul Reed Smith guitars, as I have a Custom 22, an '81 Tokai Les Paul that blows the doors off any Gibson LP outside a Custom Shop you can buy today, and a Laney twin 30 watt amp. My favorite pedal is an MXR Dime Distortion pedal and soloing with my Tremonti wah pedal. I have jammed informally but no solid plans to form a band--which I would like to do. My fave bands being STP, Alter Bridge, Alice in Chains, Collective Soul, Live, Filter and of course Led Zeppelin. I was never a gearhead in H.S., but got into jetskiis in 1997, and raced two endurance races, finishing 7th Am. Vet. 1200 SS in 2001 and 8th in 2002, then I lost complete interest in it. Getting in a car wreck and shoulder surgery had something to do it. I tried ATV's, wife didn't like them, so we bought a boat and I bought a 2001 Yamaha GP1200R last summer. Despite what your speedometer tells you, stockers go 63-64 mph. I modified mine to run 70 mph and there are guys right now on the edge of 100 mph on a jet ski, far too much wrenching for me! Out of neccessity, I learned how to tear apart a 2-stroke motor, jet pump and send the carbs to an expert. I tried once to rebuild and rejet jetski carbs one time, leaned them out and seized a piston. It was a very expensive lesson in letting someone that knows what they are doing do the carb work, and I was able to rebuid the engine from the crank up--not too hard, just hard on the hands and lower back!
