Personal
- About Me:
- I am 45 years old and have been married for 6 years. I retired from the NC Army National Guard as a MP Master Sgt. w/25 years of total active, Guard and Reserve service including the Gulf War 90-91 in Saudi, the Bosnia Operation in Europe 96-97 & most recently, in Iraq 04-06, when I retired. I am a former US Marine MP, OOH-RAH! I've been a cop for 23 years. I'm a former NC State Trooper, municipal PD Officer & Sgt., county sheriff's detective and most recently, I retired as a campus police department chief in 07 to move to AK. I have completed one of the NC regional law enforcement academies in 84 (Carteret Community College BLET, Morehead City), NC State Trooper School in 85 (very insane!) and I completed the out-of-state officer's conversion mini-academy at the Alaska Public Safety Academy in JAN of 08. Excluding MP training, this was my third law enforcement training academy (excluding MP training)...three times is charmed it would seem but who knows! I have been an instructor since 98 in in NC, the Army, FEMA, FLETC, S&W and now here in AK. I taught at the regional law enforcement training academy in NC, for the US Army and in our local fire-rescue training center and I have been a presenter at the NC and AK Safe Schools Conferences. I put on my agency's training in-house. I am now the Chief of the Galena Alaska Police Department. Galena is a primarily AK Native city, located in the middle of the Yukon River back country, accessible only by air year round, by boat in warm weather and snow mobile in cold weather when the river is frozen. When the river is in the process of either freezing or breaking up, only air travel is possible. It gets in the mid 70's here in the summers and -60 deg in the winters! You have to bring in your vehicle by river barges in warm weather unless you're a millionaire and can fly it in on a commercial C-130. The airport here is the former Galena Air Force Base and it is a large runway. This was an F-15 intercept base in the Cold War, the closest to Riussia by air. There were outlying Air Force Stations, one up the road at Campion and one 30 miles away at Camp Creek. Now that the Air Force is leaving, we have alot of great facilities for the local community. Salmon fishing during the Salmon runs is unreal though not so good this year Normally these fish are HUGE!!! Also, for cool stuff to see and do, the famous Iditarod Dogsled Race comes through here every other year, the Iron dog snow mobile race and the Yukon 600 boat race. We have lots of dog mushers in Galena. Alaska is incredibly beautiful, wild and remote. I fly all incarcerated prisoners to Fairbanks, as I only have a holding cell @ my PD. We have magistrate's court here too. Serious injuries or illnesses are treated at the local clinic ER, stabilized, taken by EMS to the Airport and air-evaced to Fairbanks or Anchorage. Three local Alaska Troopers work with Village Public Safety Officers (VPSO's ) in neighboring villages, to enforce the law and to keep order. Galena is the home of one of only three public boarding schools in Alaska, the Galena Interior Learning Academy (G.I.L.A.), a public high school for students from across AK. The campus is on the former Air Force Base. GILA offers a 4-year Alaska High School diploma program and vocational certificates in small aircraft pilot, food service, automotive repair and of course, college prep. The Galena boys basketball team is the 08 2A champion team for the largest state in the USA! The city school high school program and the GILA program are combined for academic and athletic activities. GILA offers annual AK Emergency Trauma Tech (ETT-like 1st responder in the lower 48) to HS students and a number of them go on to become Alaska EMTs. With the remoteness and inability to jump in the car and drive to the mall or go to the local hospital, living in the Alaska back country is not for the faint-hearted. I have one FT officer, one reserve and an admin. assistant, and positions for 2 auxiliary officers. I am also training officer and firearms instructor. I am a former DARE Officer and I have extensive background as a traffic officer, S.R.O., D.A.R.E. Officer, homicide investigator and I have 3 specialized police training certificates of 400-hours from the NC Justice Academy: Community Policing, Criminal Investigation and SRO. I am also an AK and NC EMT. I also have my AK Advanced Police Certificate along with the 2 advanced NC Peace Officer Certificates (NC Police Standards Commission in 95, and the NC Sheriff's Commission in 93). I got my AK general law enforcement certification in June of 08, along with the AK advanced. I also have my BS and some MS credit. I am an instructor and have several train-the-trainers, incuding firearms, DV, counter-terrorism, community policing, active shooter response and school safety & community emergency planner and terrorism. I did a State Dept. mission on counter-terrorism to the former Soviet Republic of Moldova. That was so fun, an incredible place. I have also served as an MP in Japan, Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. I am pursuing my Master right now w/12 credits through Norwich University. Alaska is an awesome place. I can't begin to describe the frontier life here, it is sooo cool (literally), though it gets a wee bit warm in the summers (90 for several days July 4 weekend of 08) and the mosquitoes and gnats are vicious. Slap them and they REALLY get mad!! Alaska's remote interior is a fun and challenging place to be a cop. I love being a cop. I most of all love beiong married and spending time with my wife, our dogs and enjoying life in beautiful Alaska. Politics: Let me sum it up: Gun control is the ability to hit your target! You want gun control, move to England please! Hah hah! SPAY-NEUTER YOUR LIBERALS! TED KENNEDY'S CAR HAS KILLED MORE PEOPLE THAN ALL OF MY GUNS HAVE! PISS OFF A LIBERAL-BUY A GUN OR WORK AND PAY TAXES! JUST SAY NOBAMA TO OSAMMA BIN OBAMA HUSSEIN BARACK!
