So friend what's the damage report from Edouard? We've had the 2008 White Marlin Open going on up here since Monday. Today's the last day. It looks like the top White Marlin is going to be worth about $950,000. Not too bad. It weighed 81 lbs. The first place Blue Marlin weighed 935.5 Lbs. and the top Tuna weighed 172 Lbs. The top dolphin weighed 67 lbs which is pretty good for up here. The state record is 71 lbs. All totaled they had three hundred boats fishing. There's a so-so picture of the big blue in my fishing album. Take care buddy and stay safe. Ed

Hey Troy! Yes I'm alive and kicking! :-) I've just been out of town every weekend for the past month I believe!!! And been working on finding a place to live in Lafayette - I'll be moving there in September. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Lake Chuck! I left for Dallas the next day, so I was busy packing the night before. Hope you liked your class and glad you got another place to stay!!!

Hey buddy what's happening down your way? Fortunately it looks like Dolly won't be visiting your area; that's good. What spices do ya'll use down there when your cooking shrimp, crawfish or blue crabs? Up here we steam them with good old "Old Bay" seasoning. That with some rock salt, vinegar and maybe a little beer and things are rockin. You guys got any secrets down there? It's funny as noted for blue crabs as the Chesapeake Bay is, during the winter and spring months most all the crabs are imported from LA or TX. I guess you guys gottem all year down there. Our season is pretty much April-November and then that's it for the local crab. As for shrimp and crawfish as far as we're concerned up here you guys got the market on that. No crawfish or shrimp here. Speaking of good eats when I was at FLETC in Georgia I remember one of the instructors had us over and had if I remember correctly a "low country boil." Boy was that good and I sure wish I remember how he made it. I do remember it was a little bit of everything. A man could grow a serious belly down there. Well brother I've made myself hungry. Take care and stay safe.

You're not kidding. When they stuck the glass tube in the fish they were checking the quality of the meat. At our big fish market here they still do that routinely. Up in New England if you book a trip for Giant Bluefin like you saw; if you are lucky enough to catch one the boat that you chartered keeps it and sells it keeping all the profit. The only thing you get out of the deal is a free fishing trip. Not my kind of deal. The Japanese are ravenous when it comes to freah bluefin tuna as you witnessed with their spirited bidding. The popularity of the bluefin has led to pretty stringent fishing regulations. For the trip we were allowed 1 bluefin under 47", 1 bluefin 47"-72" and the boat is allowed 1 bluefin over 72" for the year. The worst of it is these regulations are administered by National Marine Fisheries and change frequently. Boy I bet when you saw the limos and the suits and knowing the history of the place you probably thought you had the motherlode. Who would've ever thought all that for a fish? Take care my friend.
