THE TIME HAS COME.................................................................... If it should be that I grow frail and weak, and pain should keep me from my sleep, then, will you do what must be done, for this, the last battle can not be won. You will be sad I understand, but don't let grief then stay your hand, for on this day, more than the rest, your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, what is to come, can hold no fears, youwould not want me to suffer so, when the time comes, please let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend, only stay with me until the end. And hold me firm and speak to me until my eyes no longer can see. It is a kindness you do for me. Although my tail its last has waved, from pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you who has decided this thing to do, we've been so close, we two, these years, don't let your heart hold any more tears...................Author Unknown

MY DOG......................... My dog is more than my partner you see, Because he is a very good friend to me. He's the nose I don't have, the eyes I have not, He's one of the best partners most cops ain't got. Day by day we do what we do best, His four paws never seem to rest. He always does whatever I ask, Seeming to enjoy every task. I know one day his work will be done, But for now we can only have fun. For my dog is more than a partner to me, My dog is my best friend and he always will be.

A POLICE DOGS PRAYER........................... Oh almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom embraces the universe, watch over my handler while I sleep. Protect my handler from harm while I am unable to do so. I pray, help keep our streets and homes safe while my handler and I rest. I ask for your loving care because my handler's duty is dangerous. Grant my handler your unending strength and courage in our daily assignments. Dear God, protect my brave handler, grant your almighty protection, unite my handler safely with the family after the tour of duty has ended. I ask nothing for myself. Amen.

A Working Dog's Oath They handled themselves with beauty & grace and who could ever forget that beautiful face Whether at work; or at home; whatever the test they always worked hard; and did their best They were real champions; at work or at play but their lives were cut short; suddenly one day While working on the job with their partner one day they put themselves out on a limb; out into harms way They gave the ultimate sacrifice; any dog can give they gave up their life; so someone could live The best of their breed; as his partner and anyone would say many hearts are now broken; that he had to prove it this way Now as the trees are blowing in the gentle breeze the sun is shining; thru the leaves on the trees The meadows are green; and the grass grows tall off in the distance they can see a waterfall As they look over the falls; down through the creek the water flows gently; as a rabbit sneaks a peek Far up above; in the deep blue sky they see the birds soar high; as they fly by They see animals playing; at the bridge by a waterfall chasing each other; and just having a ball They play all day; from morning to night there's no more rain; just warm sunlight Off in the distance; they hear trumpets blow then all the animals look up; and notice a bright glow The harps would play and the angels would sing as they know they've come home; they've earned their wings We remember that they died; in the line of duty and are now with the Lord; sharing in heaven's beauty Off to the meadows now; where they can play and roam free with an occasional rest stop; under a tall oak tree No more bad guys to chase; or bullets to take just a run through the meadow; down to the lake A quick splash in the water; then back to the shore then it's off to the forest; to go play some more These special dogs are back home; up in heaven above they're cradled in God's arm's; and covered with His love We'll light a candle for all of them; in the dark of night in loving memory of all; these very special knights.

A COP ON THE TAKE..................... First he takes..........the oath. Now look at what else he takes: He takes..........it in stride when people call him pig. He takes.........his lousy pay check realizing he'll never be rich. He takes.........a second job sometimes to make ends meet and support his family. He takes.........time to stop and talk to children. He takes..........your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved. He takes..........on creeps you would even be afraid to look at. He takes..........time away from his family to keep you safe. He takes..........your injured child to the hospital. He takes..........the graveyard shift without complaint because its his turn. He takes..........his life into his hands daily. He takes..........you home when your car breaks down. He takes..........time to explain why both your headlights have to work. He takes..........the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died. He takes.........criminals to jail. He takes..........in sights that would make you cry. Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to. He takes..........memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day. He takes..........time to explain to his family why he can't make the ball game his child is in and why he has to work on the holiday when other parents are off. Sometimes..........he takes a bullet. And yes, occasionally..........he may take a free cup of coffee. If he is lucky..........he takes retirement. Author Unknown Then one day he pays for all he has taken.............and God takes him.

    1. You have the right to remain motionless, or you may elect to run away from me. 2. Should you decide to run, I shall direct my K-9 to chase you down to the ends of the earth. 3. You have the right to have your lawyer run with you. Should he refuse, a recent Law School graduate will be appointed by the court to jog along with you. 4. If while running, you suddenly decide to end the race, beware that my K-9 may or may not understand your intentions, and may continue his persuit of you in full stride. 5. You may stop running at any time, at your own risk. 6. Good luck. On your mark, get set....GO!!!!!

You're not a Police Officer until you taste them.... The department was all astir, there was a lot of laughing and joking due to all the new officers, myself included, hitting the streets today for the first time. After months of seemingly endless amounts of classes, paperwork, and lectures we were finally done with the Police academy and ready to join the ranks of our department. All you could see were rows of cadets with huge smiles and polished badges. As we sat in the briefing room, we could barely sit still anxiously awaiting our turn to be introduced and given our beat assignment or, for the lay person, our own portion of the city to "serve and protect." It was then that he walked in. A statue of a man - 6 foot 3 and 230 pounds of solid muscle, he had black hair with highlights of gray and steely eyes that make you feel nervous even when he wasn't looking at you. He had a reputation for being the biggest and the smartest officer to ever work our fair city. He had been on the department for longer then anyone could remember and those years of service had made him into somewhat of a legend. The new guys, or "rookies" as he called us, both respected and feared him. When he spoke even the most seasoned officers paid attention. It was almost a privilege when one of the rookies got to be around when he would tell one of his police stories about the old days. But we knew our place and never interrupted for fear of being shooed away. He was respected and revered by all who knew him. After my first year on the department I still had never heard or saw him speak to any of the rookies for any length of time. When he did speak to them all he would say was, "So, you want to be a policeman do you hero? I'll tell you what, when you can tell me what they taste like, then you can call yourself a real policeman." This particular phrase I had heard dozens of times. Me and my buddies all had bets about "what they taste like" actually referred to. Some believed it referred to the taste of your own blood after a hard fight. Others thought it referred to the taste of sweat after a long day's work. Being on the department for a year, I thought I knew just about everyone and everything. So one afternoon, I mustered up the courage and walked up to him. When he looked down at me, I said "You know, I think I've paid my dues. I've been in plenty of fights, made dozens of arrests, and sweated my butt off just like everyone else. So what does that little saying of yours mean anyway?" With that, he merely stated, "Well, seeing as how you've said and done it all, you tell me what it means, hero." When I had no answer, he shook his head and snickered, "rookies," and walked away. The next evening was to be the worst one to date. The night started out slow, but as the evening wore on, the calls became more frequent and dangerous. I made several small arrests and then had a real knock down drag out fight. However, I was able to make the arrest without hurting the suspect or myself. After that, I was looking forward to just letting the shift wind down and getting home to my wife and daughter. I had just glanced at my watch and it was 11:55, five more minutes and I would be on my way to the house. I don't know if it was fatigue or just my imagination, but as I drove down one of the streets on my beat, I thought I saw my daughter standing on someone else's porch. I looked again but it was not my daughter as I had first thought but merely a small child about her age. She was probably only six or seven years old and dressed in an oversized shirt that hung to her feet. She was clutching an old rag doll in her arms that looked older than me. I immediately stopped my patrol car to see what she was doing outside her house at such an hour by herself. When I approached, there seemed to be a sigh of relief on her face. I had to laugh to myself, thinking she sees the hero policeman come to save the day. I knelt at her side and asked what she was doing outside. She said "My mommy and daddy just had a really big fight and now mommy won't wake up." My mind was reeling. Now what do I do? I instantly called for backup and ran to the nearest window. As I looked inside I saw a man standing over a lady with his hands covered in blood, her blood. I kicked open the door, pushed the man aside and checked for a pulse, but was unable to find one. I immediately cuffed the man and began doing CPR on the lady. It was then I heard a small voice from behind me, "Mr. Policeman, please make my mommy wake up." I continued to perform CPR until my backup and medics arrived but they said it was too late. She was dead. I then looked at the man. He said, "I don't know what happened. She was yelling at me to stop drinking and to get a job and I just had enough. I just shoved her so she would leave me alone and she fell and hit her head." As I walked the man out to the car in handcuffs, I again saw that little girl. In the five minutes that has passed, I went from hero to monster. Not only was I unable to wake up her mommy, but now I was taking daddy away too. Before I left the scene, I thought I would talk to the little girl. To say what, I don't know. Maybe just to tell her I was sorry about her mommy and daddy. But as I approached, she turned away and I knew it was useless and I would probably make it worse. As I sat in the locker room at the station, I kept replaying the whole thing in my mind. Maybe if I would have been faster or done something different, just maybe that little girl would still have her mother. And even though it may sound selfish, I would still be the hero. It was then that I felt a large hand on my shoulder. I heard that all too familiar question again, "Well, hero, what do they taste like?" But before I could get mad or shout some sarcastic remark, I realized that all the pent up emotions had flooded the surface and there was a steady stream of tears cascading down my face. It was at that moment that I realized what the answer to his question was. Tears. With that, he began to walk away, but he stopped. "You know, there was nothing you could have done differently," he said. "Sometimes you can do everything right and still the outcome is the same. You may not be the hero you once thought you were, but now you ARE a police officer."

I'm Just Like You author unknown I have been where you fear to be; I have seen what you fear to see; I have done what you fear to do; All these things I have done for you. I am the one you lean upon, The one you cast your scorn upon, The one you bring your troubles to, All these things I have been for you. The one you ask to stand apart, The one you feel should have no heart, The one you call the "man in blue"; But I am a person, just like you. And through the years, I have come to see That I am not what you ask of me. So take this badge, take this gun; Will you take it? - Will anyone? And when you watch a person die And hear a battered baby cry, Then do you think that you can be All these things you ask of me?
