About Me:
I enjoy spending time with my family and watching the Colts win football games. I'd like to say I like watching the Orioles win baseball games but that'd still be a stretch at this point, although they're trying. I've worked all three shifts and currently work 3rd shift. I am an FTO, DRE, and CIT officer. I also have completed Instructor school and SFST Instructor School. At this point in my career I wish I had started some type of journal about the time I started the academy process. It's true what they say, some of this stuff you couldn't make up - nobody would believe you anyway. Newest Update: Our department's currently involved in a fight over our department's take home cars. Just to put it in perspective - and I don't care who sees this at this point- the mayor of Indianapolis (the only city larger than us in the state) makes $95,000 a year. Our mayor makes $130,000 a year. Indy has a population of over 1 million, our city has 300,000 +/-. The Chief in Indy makes a little over $103,000 a year and oversees a department of over 1,600 sworn officers. Our Chief makes over $102,000 (the difference is actually right at $997 and change) and oversees a department of just over 400 officers. However, when you start looking at the patrolman pay scale, comparing officers with just 3 years of experience, we in Fort Wayne make over $6,200 less just in base pay alone. Not saying we should make what Indy does but there's no way this city can justify the FAT contracts they're giving to these two positions alone. What a waste. Also, our department does not allow our take home cars to be driven outside the county yet our Chief is allowing several people in his command to drive their unmarked cars out of county, including one Deputy Chief that he has allowed a regular passenger car plate to be put on the car and the police plate removed so you can't even tell it's a police car. Meanwhile, we as officers work for free every time we’re in our take homes because we aren’t allowed to claim any overtime for any reason when we get into a situation off duty unless we are on scene for more than 30 minutes for each occurrence. The cost of having a take home car the city says. I could go on and on but what for.....our Chief's been in place for over 9 years and many officers have lost all confidence in him and his "rule by memo" legacy. Didn't mean to be so negative but I needed to get it off my chest. I feel better already!

    Troy-- Thanks for the add. Just down the street from the CPD. Familiar with many of the folks there. Been around here since the Sumer of 69. Grew up in the law enforcement community in the area.     Thanks for the add. As for your hockey comments and the FD requirements, we have found that the cop team keeps getting older and the fire team keeps getting younger! I'll be 40 this year and there is a kid on the fire team that plays high school hockey! (vol. firefighter) Maybe it's time for me to retire.
