I would recommend this rifle to anyone looking for a lightwieght easy to clean, use, fire, and carry rifle. Very similar to the M16A2, A4, and M4 military issue rifles which i must say are about as accurate a rifle as you can find. The options with thing are limitless given the way the rifle is made with a slide system that allows you to add various types of accessories for use. Definitely worth the price. Even more accurate with the military used ACOG scope system.

A great gun for tactical officers. I suggest Philadelphia PD buy these for regular patrol it would take cop killers off the street.

I just bought one of the DPMS Panther AP-4 carbines and absolutely love it. Once the sights were dialed in, shooting 4 inch groups at 100 yards is quite possible even without optics. The carry-handle/A2 rear sight group is removable, leaving you an A3 flat-top for adding optics if you like.

Local price was $965 and included sling, hard case and two 30-rd. magazines.

With it's sliding butstock and light weight makes this a very effective weapon for everything to hunting to clearing a building. The .233 round packs the punch you need from any range. I have owned mine for years and would not trade anything for it.

I prefer the DPMS models over Bushmaster and Colt for a variety of reasons. First, made in Minnesota, like me.

Secondly, I hate shooting with goggles on, and this is the only AR type weapon that doesn't blow powder back into my face after every shot. Not sure if it's tighter fitting locking lugs or more efficient gas channels, but it makes a world of difference to me. Not sure how many opportunities I'll get to put my glasses on if some one is trying to shoot me so it's a big enough characteristic to affect my purchase.

I would recommend this AR varient to anyone. DPMS is a sub contractor for many of the parts on our government M4's.. I know because I build the darn things!
DPMS rifle and carbines are top notch! No doubts, and I would trust my life with one any day.

I haven't really ever shot a AR 15 type carbine that didn't shoot good........and there are several quality carbine makers out there...... I purchased a DPMS AP-4 carbine to carry as my patrol rifle because of quality and it appealed to me more than the rest. The AP-4 has been a real tack driver with irons or optics..........i would give DPMS 2 thumbs up

AR style rifles are great, most of the manufacturers are about the same as far as quality. Prices however vary greatly! You will pay twice to three times as much for a Rock River as you will for a DPMS. I have a DPMS LR308 that I weighed the pros and cons against Armalite's AR10. You get more "bang" for the buck (OK sue me) with DPMS.
Since AR's are completely modular, you can get crazy (and expensive) pop and swap toys for it. yes it can be very addictive..but hey, it's a tool as well.
Just ensure to check headspace after you swap barrels, or replace your forend with a fancy "freefloat" aluminum tube.-most requires you to remove the barrel nut.
    Have fun.

Sorry, this is less of review, and more of a question about the rifle. I want to buy the DPMS Panther Lite 16. and if anyone has any comments on that rifle PLEASE let me know. This is a major investment for me, and i just want to be sure that i am buying a quality firearm. thank you.

i have owned this weapon for over a yr already. i dont use it for anything other then target shooting. its vary easy to use. it has never jammed up or misfired on me. i was in a car wreck the week before the wreck i used it at the range using cheap monarch .223 rounds found at a local academy story. i shot over 800rounds that day. it took me over 8 months to go back to the shooting range by this point i had nt cleaned it since before my car wrack and i didnt clean it after i used it and the weapon still did nt misfire or jam on me. i have also shot a bushmaster before and it has jammed on me on 2 out of the 30rounds it carries. a bother in law owns a rockriver ar-15 and i am thinking about buying one but cost to mush over $1200! by fare the standard dpms ar-15 is the best bang for your buck! price under $1000 at academy!
