I'm working to get with our SEMA here and the radio I was issued is great and allows me access to multiple departments and a one button push to get the calvary there ASAP.....We all know how important that is...

We switched to digtial about a year ago, and these are the portables that we use. Since going to digital, the transmission and reception are great. Very few "dead" spots like we use to have with the old analog system. They are user friendly radios, and work everytime you key it up. They are a great companion to the Astro Spectra mobiles. The only suggestion that I would give; make sure a Motorola professional programs them!

MY MOBLE OPERATION USES THE 4 OF THESE. WE WATCH AND LISTEN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Poor audio quality in P25 conventional and trunked modes, poor DTMF quality in analog mode, complex scan programming, heavy, large, more uncomfortable than a saber.

I've been through 4 radio upgrades and this is the best one I've had. As more departments in our area go to it we have more communication ability with them.

This the radio our department uses. I like it due to the number of channels. We can talk to the FD Ambulance, Public works, ECT.

our department has used this radio for about 3 years I like the clear audio I can talk across the state as if the person is standing right next to me--- BUT the ablity to set-up a bank with JUST the channels used locally is a pain, AND when in scan mode there isn't a recieve delay so unless your channel is already on the display as primary scan there is a bit of knob twisting and bank changing -- not a good think tactically-- the interoperabilty is fantastic its nice to have one radio for all departments throughout our state.. and the ability to "digipeat" through any vehicle if they're equipt with the "vehicle repeater system" VRS no matter who's department it is and in the encoded mode unless you have the "secret code and frequency" sammy the scanner listener can't hear anything .... the radio is big and in a case buttons can get pushed by accident, ANOTHER good point what I call the " red officer safety/down button" push that button a emergency alart is sent to the dispatcher and the frequency is locked to YOUR radio and no one else can use it until either you clear it OR the dispatch clears it ( officers and other agencies can still be dispatched to your rescue) --- over all a 3star review

used to use these while on guard on camp pendleton. pretty good from what i could see i mean, i didn't seem to have any problems with it at all and the range was pretty good and sounded clear even though i didn't really have to go that far away from the guard station. lol.

I use this radio while at Camp grayling, MI... Its a great radio! i've been in Lansing, MI and have talked to people ove 200 miles away. Its been dropped, used in the rain and dust and still works.

These are the radios we use in the Air Force. They work pretty good

we just have a few of these we got off of a grant for use with the states fairly new MARCS 800mhz system. they're super expensive but work great. as clear as a phone. only down fall is that the battery life leave something to be desired. it doesn't last half as long as the old ht1000's they were good for a good 24hrs 10 or 12 will kill ours dead.

This radio is only as good as its programmer. If your department has these and it's only loaded with a couple basic channels you need to send some one to a proffesional radio course as soon as possible. This peice of equipment can be an incredible attribute to your policing if you use it right.

We tested this product this fall, and I thought it was great. Despite what I think of a federal mandate to switch to 800mhz (particularly when my agency doesn't get any grants for it), I am looking forward to getting these into service.

As an added bonus, we are going to be able to go from 2 radios to one...long story, but I've had two radios on my belt for going on five plus years, now--so I'm REALLY glad to be going down to just the one. Plus, as with any radio, you can outfit it with a collar/shoulder mic, and earphones, which I like.

It is better than the Southern Link radios we had before this one. Communication is better. Just issued a small antenna for this which is much better than the long one we have had since they were issued several years ago.

Great radio! Durable, though heavy, and has great reception.

The Border Patrol recently changed over to the Motorola XTS 5000 about a year ago. Decent enough radio though it has poor/limited reception in some wilderness situations. It is durable and does well in desert environments (including monsoons). Reception is typically clear. Down side is that it takes some getting used to for some functions and its reception (as discribed above can cause the user to hold the radio above his/her head or stand atop of one's unit to receive a clear signal.

Our department went to the motorola when switching over to the 800 Mhz system. GREAT range and clarity. Most only dead spots are inside large buildings or basement areas.

A great radio as long as you have a good trunk system and towers to support it throught the city.

Great radio! Has many possibilities. Very tough when dropped. Better than what we had before. Battery life is decent, I usually get 12-15 hours out of one single charge. Uniform companies need to make a holster for it that will not crack (due to the placement of the snap button on most holsters) the screen on the side that cost $500 to replace.

Love the radio, but have problems keying up in rural areas. Other than that its a great radio.

LOVE THIS RADIO. DURABLE, ABLE TO PROGRAM SEVERAL CHANNEL INSTEAD OF THE STANDARD 16 CHANNELS THE HT1000 DOES. BATTERY LIFE IS LONGER TOO.

My department upgraded the radio system along with the handhelds. We carried the HT1000. The XTS 5000 is a great radio. A little heavy. I wish the belt clip would fit a standard duty belt.
