| Description: | FROM THE KEL-TEC WEBSITE: The P-3AT is a semi-automatic, locked breech pistol, chambered for the .380 Auto cartridge. It has been developed from our highly successful P-32 pistol with negligible increase in weight and size. The slidestop has been eliminated and the magazine capacity reduced to 6 rounds due to the larger cartridge. The firing mechanism is double action only. The magazine has a 6 round capacity. The KEL-TEC P-3AT is the lightest .380 Auto pistol ever made. Thanks to its locking dynamics and superior ergonometry, perceived recoil and practical accuracy are comparable to much larger guns. The P-3AT is mainly intended for plainclothes police officers as a secondary weapon, or for concealed carry by licensed citizens. The small grip size and light trigger pull make the P-3AT ideal for female shooters. |
This is a great little concealed carry gun. Tiny, light but not terribly lacking in stopping power with the 380 cartridge. It's very easy to conceal no matter what you're wearing. I often just throw it in my pocket if I'm just wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and you can't even tell it's there. It's not a target gun - it's definitely an "up close and personal" defense gun, but out at 10 yards you can still shoot a pretty good group. I'd recommend this gun to anyone looking for a little back up or off duty weapon that needs light weight and small frame.
Awesome back-up weapon, you can carry it in your pocket.
Great little pistol. Like the others have said its a up close and personnel gun but is very accurate. Great price also.
wonderful back up weapon...........
Great concealment gun. Ihave the clip on the side so I am now able to clip it to my jeans. Can not even tell its a gun, looks like a pocket knife from the top view. Used it at the range and found it difficult to control. This is a "In your ear gun," and nothing more. It's so much nicer to carry around off duty, than my Glock 27.
I owned one of these previously. I did not like it because you have to be close, too close, for it to be effective. Although it is easily concealed I could care less how easily you can conceal it as long as it is easily accessible when you need it and it does the job. I have found that the baby Glock is almost as easy to conceal, has a better range, and is available in "stopping power" calibers.
I have carried this off and on for the last 4 years and love it. When I cant conceal my G-36 .45 acp then I go for the pocket gun. It is accurate out to 10 yards and .380 well placed will stop most people. It is a bit awkward in my BIG hands but it is still functionable. I also have the clip on the side and it DOES look like a pocket knife to most people.
Great off duty pocket gun. Very easy to conceal.
THIS IS A GREAT BACK UP GUN, i'VE HAVE ON i CARRY IN MY VEST AND i ALSO HAVE A KEL TEC P11 9MM
yeah love my hel-tec....i put the pocket clip on it and it just looks like i am carrying a knife in my pocket....i probably carry this thing the most off duty....shorts...jeans...shirt tucked it it doesnt matter....in your pocket, small of your back, in your center console....and it shots good!
We fired this baby at the range. The accuracy is lost at the seven yard line in an indoor range under a control environment. 4 out of the 5 guns were accurate until the six yard line. For a close range off duty less caliber firearm I was disappointed. I give it 3 Stars
Best little back up gun I've had.......Nice pocket gun.....Easy and small, it's better then nothing, because at one time I wouldn't carry nothing..............
Hate to rate it since I've never owned one but was looking for good reviews and this was the place to come. It is small, have handled it and shot a friends. It is definetely small but very easily concealable. I thought they came out with a 45 in this frame? More stopping power but still up close and personal, the price is right as well. Thanks for the reveiws.
I have personally owned and carried this firearm for about a year now, and I have found it to be very easy to carry. I was able to extend the effective range of the P3AT up to 25 yards hitting COM, but only with extensive modifications to the weapon. After extensive work both inside and outside this gun, I still have 2-5 FTF, FTJ, other problems per 50 round box. I have also found the ergonomics to be very poor, and have actually taken a Dremmel tool to the plastic frame and covered the grip in rubber in order to get more control and usability down at the range. Even after painting the sites, it is difficult to fire accurately. Sadly, Kel-tec could have made an effective medium range weapon for regular carry, but chose to push as many of these through the factory in short order to keep the production costs down.
I'm not a 'gun guy'. This gun is what it is. It was told to me its a gun to carry off duty when you don't want to carry a gun.
You want a duty caliber gun, carry your duty gun, or another duty-caliber weapon. (In my case its a Springfield XD40 Subcompact). But you simply will not carry a duty calliber weapon all the time. I know some people can conceal just about anything, but heat and weight and concealability will win out and you'll start skipping it. If you need it, a man-stopping accurate-to-25-yards gun is useless if its in your vehicle glove box or sitting at home. You should always carry something...and this weapon fits the bill.
You need a small weapon for a back up? You can put this on a vest, in a boot or a pocket. Every time.
The price is reasonable, the customer service is good. Its a good buy and cheap insurance.
Very lightweight and versitle gun. Can be concealed anywhere for on-duty and off-duty wear. Although it is an auto-loader, it only holds 6 in the magazine. Not ideal for mid to long distance shooting but is definitely better than a sling shot.
I have had a severe jamming problem with my P#AT since I got it. I kept trying to "break it in" but I finally gave up and contacted the manufacturer. To my amazement the answer from Kel=tec was as follow: (copied exactly from the e-mail):
First, over 95% of our P3AT's work fine right out of the box.
You can return yours for warrenty service, follow the instructions on the
warrenty page of the manual. thanks
The stupidity of admitting that almost 5 out of every hundred guns are defective is scary but even worse is the unprofessionalism of that type of response filled with mis-spelling and poor grammar. Says a lot for the Kel-Tec attention to detail in my opinion.
This gun is scary to carry when a jam occurs on EVERY MAGAZINE use.
A GOOD GUN TO CARRY. LIGHT WEIGHT AND DURABLE.LACKS IN STOPPING POWER.
