I know, you're thinking "a whistle?", but hear me out. It's an electronic whistle you hold in your hand and control with the push of a button. I use it for traffic control and coaching sports and it work great. I like it ‘cause it keeps me from having to keep a whistle in my mouth. It's also nice to be able to hand it off to someone else, which you really can't do with a conventional whistle. It's really loud and comes in three different models. The cheapest one (single tone) cost me $5.00 at Wal-Mart. It was on clearance and the normal price was about $12.

We're using it as an alert device for my Mom who has COPD/Emphysema. Sometimes she needs help in the house, but she can't call loud enough for us to hear her. She uses the whistle to alert us when she's in trouble... like can't change her oxygen tank... or having difficulty breathing, especially at night if we're asleep. We can definitely hear the whistle. Before we thought of using an electronic whistle we were living on pins and needles. Now we know she can get us when she needs us. It's awesome
