Through the years I carried the Side - handle baton over the straight stick baton. However with the change in department policy I have found that the ASP baton does the same thing when needed. Its better for the officer safety aspect when it comes to gaining access to it. Great impact weapon to have on your side.

Awesome "non-leathal" tool.....having this weapon has saved a few lives because I didn't feel the need to draw my weapon against an individual armed with a bat, tire tool and a brick.

I love it, it deploys very easily and never sticks on me like the other few I've tried.

I stronly agree with the psychological deterrence. I have extended my ASP one time in self-defense. The bad guy saw it, screamed and took off running. Excellent to break glass when neccessary.

I nicked named mine "Act Right" and trust me when she comes out she gets suspects to act right. A great tool to assist in doing your job. At times I would rather use her then my x26

Very handy to carry. Doesn't take much room at all. However, it didn't gain me any compliance when used. The only real success in using it, was breaking open some windows.

I bought my ASP in 1989. I live in PA, and no one even used it or ehard of it here back then. I had read about it in Law & Order magazine, and I had to have one. And its great for plain clothes, as it is so easy to hide. However, I did hear off 2 instances where the baton cam apart when it was deployed. One I had read about that occured in a department in NY, and the other was a local deparment. The officer told me that his seargent deployed it by snapping it back into the air. When he did, the top portion became detached and went spinning into the air. Yikes! Remember the old Black Jacks? They were great for some close and personal counseling!

I love this baton, my favorite saying that goes along with it and maybe a new slogan should be, " I am going to ASP you some questions".

Very effective. Its not as good for subject control as the side handle baton, but is compact and dont get left in the car. I would recommend it to anyone. It gets the job done.

A few officer friends of mine have this baton, and a civilian friend has it, it ok, but i like the tonfa styles a little better. Another issue is price, the are VERY costly.

Good tool to have. Usually the sound of an Asp extending is enough for any combative person to wise up.

I carried the side handled pr-24 for a couple years, i was reallly glad when they cam out with the asp baton. its compact, lightweight, and you can carry it on the duty belt without and swaying on your belt. great piece of gear to have especially in responding to calls with multiple asaillants.

This is what I carry on duty, and altough it never seems to go back in once its out (sometimes good, sometimes bad) i have never had a problem expanding it the 2 times Ive needed it, great all around, and it makes it gives you an extra 2 feet from the suspect if needed if you choose not to spray for some reason.

Pretty good product. Opening the ASP has an attention getting effect...like racking a shotgun. One drawback is our department finds that they sometimes open in their own.

Good feel (could be a little heavier), good shock value when you pull it out. There are add ons out there that make it easier to break windows with it that seem interesting though. Haven't used it on a bad guy yet though...

18 inch is too small, 26 and up takes too much room to extend. I like the 21 inch. I cant even imagine being hit at anyone's full strength with this thing.
