| Description: | Colt Python 4 inch Revolver |
In the days of S&W vs Colt revolvers I felt the Python was the hands down best revolver ever made. The Python was my first duty weapon and I carried it as long as I could until departments began mandating the 9mm. But I still qualified at the range and remember a young range master asking me "Do you need any flint with that, Grandpa?" after which I outshot every young whippersnapper at the range even with my need to reload against their 9's. This handgun goes in my coffin with me.
You are so correct. I used to carry one as well. had 4. 2 - 6" and 2 - 4". This is the most accurate and has the smoothest action (out of the box) of any revolver made period. It's the Rolls Royce of revolvers! Too bad Colt doesn't make them any more.
If I could have only one handgun this would be it. Smooth action and laser-like accuracy. MIne is a 6in. but if I ever find a reasonably priced 4in. It will replace my Smiths as a work gun.
Very, very nice piece. It's unfortunatte that they're no longer being produced. The only drawback is the strength of the frame.
Straight "from the horse's mouth" (no pun intended), the "Guru" or "Master" at the plant, the Python's frame is not as strong as a Smith or Ruger. Exstensive or continued use of "hot loads" will bend the frame.
As a city cop, I carried this in 21/2" and 6". As a Fed, I carried a 4". Best duty gun I ever had...but the powers to be declared we would all carry a S&W 9mm.
Best firearm I ever carried, I had the 4" and used it as my duty weapon.
I PURCHASED ONE IN THE MID 90'S AND KEPT IT FOR ABOUT 8 YEARS AND LOVED IT, I SOLD THE GUN TO MY UNCLE WHO WANTED IT AND HE STILL SHOOTS IT ABOUT 5 TIMES A YEAR. I WISH I HAD IT BACK, I MADE A MISTAKE GETTING RID OF IT.. GREAT GUN!!!!!!!!
PROBALY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HANDGUN EVER BUILT ALONG WITH THE DIAMONBACK. I HAVE OWNED BOTH. I NEVER DREAMED COLT WOULD DISCONTINUE THESE CLASSICS.
