| Description: | Ruger GP100® revolvers were introduced in 1985 and represent some of the most durable medium-framed double action revolvers in existence. They are rugged, reliable, and dependable. Chambered for the powerful .357 Magnum cartridge, they also can utilize less-powerful, lower-recoiling, and less-expensive .38 Special ammunition. The Ruger GP100 revolvers are among the most comfortable .357 Magnum revolvers ever made. Their rugged medium-sized frames and cushioned grip system permit repeated firings of powerful .357 Magnum cartridges without shooter fatigue. All GP100 revolvers feature a strong triple-locking cylinder, and are available in both blued and stainless steel models, and in both square and round-butt variations. |
The BEST .357 Magnum rrevolver out there, PERIOD. It's the Timex of wheelguns, which'll keep perkin' right along after taking loads that would literally blow up a Smith or a Colt. Superbly accurate, user-friendly rubber grip (with aesthetically pleasing wood inserts, for the sake of anti-rubber wood-happy purists) that takes a lot of bite out of the recoil of Magnum loaods, sensible push-button cylinder release (contrast with the latches on Smiths & Colts).
Only downside is that the double-action trigger isn't quite as smooth as the top two competing brands, but it's plenty good for rapid and accurate shooting, as I can attest from having used it to help my team win a Gold Medal in the 4-Man Revolver Combat Match at last year's Nevada Police & Fire Games--I was the ONLY Ruger user, everybody else had a Smith!
This is the only wheelgun I currently own. The reason for that is simply because it is the best one on the market. I've run through S&W 686's, S&W model 10's and Colt Pythons and traded-up when I bought my GP. Accuracy is no question. I use stock grips and have upgraded a little by adding fiber-optic sights. Weight and trigger are awesome for the money. (I did have a gunsmith simply smooth the trigger a bit.) This is my standard "Hunting Buddy" and vehicle partner. If you've never seen or fired one, stop looking and just buy one of these beauties. they are no challenge to find at $300 or less if you do some digging.
this is probably the strongest 357 mag on the market bar none!
I've had one for about 5 years, previous owner has "visiting right"...
Always hits range targets (some people even get ticked of). Has done overtime in the heavy rain a few years back, still looks like on day one.
Picked up a 6-inch blued one for $229 the other day. Used to shoot my brother-in-law's stailess version, much less felt recoil than any of my S&W's. Really nice revolver. Planning on using it for hunting, figure I'll throw a pair Crimson Trace grips on it and use it for taking down medium game.
I am very happy with this gun. I have the 4", SS (KGP-141) model. Hammer action is crisp, trigger pull is smooth. Recoil is very minimal. Not too hard to strip (although you need a tool). Very accurate. I really like the way it feels in my hand. Not too heavy nor too light.
Wish I would have never sold mine. Loved that gun. You could feed really hot rounds in it and it didn't mind.
