| Description: | 70+ MPH, .50 cal and MK-19 40mm grenade launcher. Will take-out the bad guys anywhere, anytime. |
It is the new workhorse of the Military Police field
AWSOME VEHICLE
Manufacturer: TEXTRON Marine and Land
Cost (estimated with armor upgrade): $750,000.00
Primary Use: Combat enhancer specifically designed for the US Army Military Police
Overall observation: The vehicle has seen extensive combat during OIF and OEF and is now being fielded for stateside units. The primary weapon of the vehicle is the MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher and the .50cal M48 (just a modified M2) machine gun is secondary. The unique v-shape configuration is designed to deflect explosive devices while the armor is considered 'deflective' v. 'reactive'. The truck is designed with 3 crew members in mind; however, if not taken up by gear, there is a 4th seat. Unclassified data on the vehicle can be found here: http://www.textronmarineandland.com/products/land/asv_m1117.htm
the new door knocker
This dog'll hunt ! !
Not bad when you have to break down a door.
Need one when it's Christmas time at the mall.
Looks like a great commute vehicle
This looks like exactly what I need!!
We all could use this on patrol.
How would you like to look in your rear view mirror and see blue lights from this...
I could use one of those. . How's the gas mileage ? Just needs a light bar and it's ready to go !
this is the vehicle i drive in the military. It is awesome. It is very up to date with the weapon systems and the turret and if you turn the air conditioning on, the vehicle turns into practically an ice box in minutes. Very convenient for those hot days. It keeps the gunner safe and unexposed. The only thing with the turret is that it is kept in place only by gravity, so in the event of a rollover, the gunner is getting ejected. Overall i like the ASV.
I'll take it!
I'm trading in my Crown Vic for one of these
I can see where there are times where my company could use this... best of all the price is not that bad looks good...
Awesome Vehicle, a must have for all departments!!
my company just got these beasts and my only gripes about them is very little leg room compared to the 1151's and the width makes it hard to navigate narrow streets but all in all this vehicle is awesome
My friend in Iraq tells me about his all the time.
All I want for Christmas is a M1117 Armored Security Vehicle. . . . . WOOOOHOOOO . . . .
My next 4 wheel drive!!
does this one have the electronic 50 cal and the mark 19 in it this is great vehicle i drove one in iraq and it drives like a cadilac its friken awesome
Looks good to me! Better than changing tracks on a M1 or Bradley.
The good points:
The ASV is fast on the road, offers a smooth and relatively quiet ride, provides good crew protection, and packs a punch with the M2 and Mk19. The A/C system in this vehicle is excellent, especially for those nice summer days in Iraq.
The bad points:
Visibility is very limited due to the small windows and view ports. Trying to spot IED's or approaching hostiles while rolling down the road is extremely difficult. The ASV is comfortable for soldiers 5'6" and under, but for taller or larger troops it is very, very cramped. Add to that the IOTV or IBA that the individual soldier wears, he/she essentially becomes immobile within the vehicle.
All in all the ASV is not a bad vehicle. As with any military equipment, it has its advantages and its disadvantages.
Great vehicle until the transmission gets stuck in 2nd gear and you have to drive 20 mph through baghdad in a big slow target.
Yeah these are nice against small arms fire , however they dont hold up to EFPs very well

We used them, but when trying to negotiate Fallujah and Ramadi, the 1151 HMMWV would be much better. The weapons platform is quite unique, you can blast the enemy with a grenades and/or machine gun fire, or even try to knock down enemy aircraft. They have an on-board (what use to be called) chem-clear system that was given some silly nomenclature. Current issue is that the Army may do away with the purchas project making the parts even harder to get in the event this vehicle goes down. Don't get me wrong, it is a strong creature, but mobility just isn't truly there. Kinda' like a Paladin, Nice gun but no go.
I have mixed emotions on this vehicle. It was originally the military police armored vehicle of choice, but its limitations in actual combat have been revealed in Iraq. It is used primarily in convoy security (combat logistics patrols) here in country but it isnt just an MP vehicle anymore, all types of units in convoy security roles use it, but its slowly being phased out in favor of the much better protected MRAPs. Without going overboard in terms of OPSEC, this vehicle is better served in the traditional MP role of TCPs (traffic control points for you civilian peeps) where its stationary and more a show of force, or to provide a support by fire platform for potential MOUT operations rather than its current convoy security role.
