| Description: | Daniel Da Cruz's written account of the training of platoon 1036 during 1985 is a good commercial account of the boot camp experience. Da Cruz gives a well-organized description of the training process. The book definitely focuses on the positive aspects of training and is the type of book that helps recruits and parents know what to expect during training. |
I was in platoon 1036 and featured in Chapter 6, "Santiago, The Sweet Taste of Command". Da Cruz does a great job of recreating the essence of boot camp. Not only does he give an unbiased opinion of how boot camp in the Marine Corps is, but he also compares the boot camp of the year with his own experience. Da Cruz also throws in the occasional history lesson in each chapter. It's a great book that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book if you want some quality reading.
A good read. Some things never change...Marine Corps boot camp is one of them.
If you have ever wondered about USMC Basic Training this book will enlighten you as to the "Hands On" style used to turn out Hard Charging Marines.
This book is awesome, I read it like 8 times.
