| Description: | Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a great aircraft for training, use in law enforcement (traffic, search & rescue, etc.), and all-around enjoyment of the skies. I know of several LE agencies that employ this aircraft, or similar aircraft. While having different capabilities than a helicopter, it is still a valuable asset to an agency that has alot of territory to cover. Plus, these aircraft are cheaper to operate and maintain than a standard Bell JetRanger helicopter. They are easy to fly, enjoy great range and adequate speed, and also slow-flying and short and soft field takeoff and landing characteristics. Newer models use a Turbo Diesel engine, and sip fuel to achieve a five or six hour flight endurance...much longer on station than a helicopter. Updated avionics ("glass cockpit") increase the capabilities to allow safer operation in difficult environments, such as low-visibility weather, nighttime, mountainous areas, coastal areas, high-aircraft traffic areas, and sparsely populated areas. These aircraft can be fitted with a light and/or FLIR for use in monitoring or assisting ground-based LE. All around a great aircraft and asset for any medium to large sized agency with alot of territory to patrol. |
A great piece of gear! Inexpensive, reliable, user-friendly, safe, easy to maintain and operate. There may be faster aircraft, cheaper aircraft, or more advanced aircraft, but very few incorporate those characteristics all in one package.
Excellent piece of equipment. I have several hours in this type. A general workhorse that can take the pounding of abuse and still come out smelling like a rose. All around great a/c for the price.
Good plane.
Awesome aircraft, hands down! This is what I fly for flight training and I don't think I would use another aircraft. It is very user friendly and very fun to learn in. I have flown a Piper Cherokee and a Mooney Ovation and they are both great aircraft as well, however they don't compare to the quality of the product that Cessna always deals out. The 172 is a fantastic aircraft for the beginner or veteran. I love this plane!
