Description:

The SIG SAUER® P226 is the pistol that set the standard by which all other combat handguns are measured. Designed as SIG’s entrant in the military trials to replace the 1911, today the P226 is in use by the U.S. Navy SEALs, Federal agents, and numerous law enforcement agencies including the Texas Rangers, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Michigan State Police to name a few. The exceptional ergonomics and balance make this full-size pistol easy to handle. Available in either 9mm, .357 SIG or .40 S&W, its longer barrel yields better ballistic performance and accuracy.

This is my weapon of choice. Nice Gun and it fits well in my hand. I had a problem with the .357 sig round and this gun though. According to the professionals the 226 frame was initally made for the 9mm round and was adopted for the .357 and .40 rounds. From what I gathered the frame was not "beefed" up enough for the higher energy. I started with the .357 round and blew the sear pin set up out. Lucky I was on the range. Sig was more than happy to fix the gun for free. I changed to the .40 barrel and al has gone great since.

I use this as my competition and winter carry piece. I love the way it fits like my hand like an extension. I have one in .40 S&W and one in .357 SIG. Both are fantastic shooters. The only thing I wish they had is a little more capacity.

Firstoff, I was apprehensive about a firearm ISSUED by my agency, as the agency's rep in this area was dismal. That's okay, so was training (at that time). After actually using the P226, I was so impressed with it, I personally bought a pre-owned - and pre-ban (in 1998) P226 complete with the two full-cap magazines. Following Sig's care/maintenance instructions, this weapon has performed flawlessly ever since. There was a temporary issue of RUST from my keeping it in a nylon holster exposed to extreme dampness, but a cleaning and regular application of Sig's specified cleaner stopped the rust "cold" and prevented further rust. I'm very satisfied.

Good weapon. Accurate. Sights are less forgiving but more precise than Beretta or Glock. Reliable. Less rust prone than Beretta, but you still need to keep it oiled in humid environments...it ain't a Glock. Probably one of the single most accurate issue duty weapons out there, rivaled only by H&K. Highly recommended for the officer who is gun-savvy and likes to shoot. It's smaller framed sibling the P228 is better choice for females, small handed males or undercover officers who need to conceal a weapon but prefer a higher capacity and more substantial grip. The P226 is still one of the best weapons out there for patrol.

This is by far the best semi-automatic handgun I have ever fired. I was issued the 9mm version in 1994 and transitioned to the .40SW when Sig began producing them. Never even realized a difference, except the stopping power was dramatically increased with the .40SW. I loved this weapon so much, I bought it when I retired. Carry it now.

Have carried the P226 .45cal. for several years now. It is an excellent weapon that is dependable (even in adverse whether and environmental conditions such as sand and dirt). Easy to break down and clean and the Trijicon sights make shooting a breeze. None of the violent kickback of the old military .45's. A great weapon.

I love this gun. After I bought my own, I sent it off and had it K coted. Ive had mine for yrs. I also own an H&K USP 9mm, and a Glock model 26. My dept issues the Sig 220 (.45). I carried the 220 for a couple yrs, but after I went back to plain clothes, I returned the 220 and resorted to carrying the 226 again. I dont like to carry spare mags on my person and the 226 holds more ammo than the 220. I love my 226.....

Have had two "issued" P226's in the last 13 years on the department. First was a 9mm that was one of the first semi-autos the department changed to about 5 to 10 years before I hired in. When it was empty you could hear it rattle a bit as there had been 1000's of rounds put though it, but it never failed and was still accurate. Currently have the .40 cal. and it has functioned flawlessly. I understand that our department is changing again. Believe it will stay with the P226 (per rumors). Hope so, this is the best weapon I've fired in a long time.

Simple operation and breakdown. Only problem I ever had was that I dried the rails and it started to stovepipe. This is a wet fire gun and needs to be kept oiled. My department has used this weapon, in .357 Sig, since 1998. We have 900 officers and have had no problems like the one described by Brad33. So far in 7 shootings with it 6 of the suspects have been killed. The one shooting where the bad guy lived was by a motor officer who had just ridden past an armed robbery where the robber shot the victim. The officer made a U-Turn came to a stop and fired while astride his motor striking the suspect in the abdomen. Our Special Response Unit, within the last year to year and a half have switched from .45 USPs back to this weapon platform and caliber.

After a fatal in line of duty shooting of a brother officer in Lewiston Maine on July 23, 1988 our department replaced the Swith and Wesson .367 with the P226. The transition was extremely smooth and a nice comfort from carrying six in the cylinder to 15 in the semi. The weapon is easily maintained , quickly broken down, reliable and very accurate as long as you perform the required maintenance. When working plain clothes the weapon was easily concealed in such a way as to make access simple and effective.

I have one of these in 9mm and I love it! Ever since I got it it feels weird shooting my Spring Field M1911-1. It is one of the best hand guns there is.

I don't have much choice in whether or not I carry this weapon but if I did, I would choose it hands down. Over 3,000 rounds down range with only a handful of malfunctions firing plinking ammo. The best handgun I have ever fired. I carry the .357 SIG but have shot the .40 with the same results. DA/SA is smooth and consistent. There is a reason much of the country is switching to SIG as a primary weapon, the perform flawlessly.

This is the best I have had. It does weight a little more the the Clock but I really like the safety features.

Department issued in .357 Sig. I will buy one of my own. I have fire most of the Sig family of pistols and like that they share the same controls, this is a plus when trying to select back ups, no worries about changing to a different type of control system. This is also a good choice for those with thicker hands the slide sits high above the frame reducing slide bite, this was the only solution that worked for a fellow officer at a former agency.

Great sidearm, reliable, durable, easy to operate and maintain. The excellent reputation of a Sig Sauer in a full size "duty" package. I own a 226 in .40cal and I am very pleased with it's performance, accuracy and quality. I easily switched the factory grips to Houge grips and I have always easily found holsters for this weapon (compatible with P-220 holsters). I reccommend this as an excellent primary sidearm, especially for Departments. The only drawbacks are that spare mags are pricy at $30-$45 per mag. And you do need to watch for specks or rust in damp/humid/marine condition (more the Mags than the gun). I am very pleased with my Sig, the only thing I would change would be to include Accy. rails when purchased, other than that it is perfect!

Great gun, never any problems. I carry the .40 S&W, and I can't imagine using any other gun on duty.

Treat this weapon right, practice with it, keep it clean, and it will treat you right. This is a good reliable weapon. No misfires, several thousand rounds fired. I trust it.

This weapon, in the P226R model, is absolute garbage, IMHO. My department issues this as the standard sidearm and I HATE IT!!!! Mainly, the trigger pull is very long and weird. My whole deparement complains about this weapon. We originally carried the P226, which was a fine weapon, then switched to the P220 (.45 cal), then switched over to the P226R because some of the guys said the .45 "was too big". WAH!!!! So now we're stuck with the P226R and it's L-O-N-G trigger pull that makes you develop weird shooting habits. If you have a choice and you're going to spend the money, make sure you buy the P226 or P220. Stay away from the P226R. Better yet, buy a Glock; I haven't shot a bad one yet.

This is my issued duty weapon in .357sig. It's a fine firearm, but not my first choice for a duty weapon. Many of the deputies at my agency refer to it as their issued boat anchor.

This was going to be my weapon of choice, some time back, but when I blindfoled my eyes and placed five pieccs in front of me to get an accurate fit and feel blindfolded, anoth piece fit my hands like a glove. It was revealed that this Sig came in 4th. I have big hands for a woman, but not as big as my male counter part,s so the fit may be a much better one for the males.

I have carried mine since 1999. I love it!! I first got hooked on the 357 sig after shooting my dads issued weapon from DPS. If I ever get rid of it, it will be replaced with a new one. Shoots great. Sig rules!!

my first love... i've bought several other guns since then but will always keep a sig somewhere at home. never had any failure but never had either expected results at the shootig range. never mind, that's sérious stuff and you can stand by it in shitty situations. that's what it is made for after all...
