| Description: | The P229 was the first pistol to be manufactured by SIGARMS in Exeter, New Hampshire. Available in 9mm, .40 S&W and .357 SIG, the P229R is one of the most popular SIG SAUER® pistols and carried by thousands of law enforcement professionals throughout the country. The compact size of the P229 makes it ideal for concealed carry. |
SIG handguns feel like they were manufactured to my hand's specifications. Match comfort with the heritage of Swiss precision and reliability and you've got a perfect sidearm.
I carry this in .40 as a back-up and off-duty unit. I have been extremely impressed with the ease of use and accuracy on the range. I have always been a Glock fan and this is a far better shooting gun.
I had the chance to fire a friend's Sig 229 this past weekend and now I'm ready to trade in my Glock 23 for one of these beauties.
This firearm has 110% of my satisfaction.
I have this in the Equinox. I have never had any problems with this gun. I will always use Sig. I am very impressed with the accuracy with the short barrel. I shoot .357 sig and would not shoot any other round.
I absolutely love my Sig. I love the compact size of the 229 versus the 226. It's a little easier to conceal for off duty and UC work. The nice thing about the 229 is you arent losing any round capacity vs the larger 225 and 226. It's faster out of the holster and so easy to carry. The light weight frame makes carrying it a breeze. I would recommend the p229 for any and all of my LE brothers and sisters for on and off duty use!
My SIG SAUER 229 gets 5 stars across the board. Reliability that comes second to none. It wouldnt be on my duty belt if I thought any less. (My life and my partner's relies on it)
All I can say is the P229 .40 S&W is a sweet pistol with a lot of bang for the buck.
I've used many hanguns police and military, one of, if not, the best and interchangable clips with my off duty sig pro 2340 .40 w/15 round capacity. Won my department award, 3 consecutive 300's...predictable, accurate, consistant.
This pistol has an unbeatable combination of legendary reliability, outstanding ergonomics and astounding accuracy! Glock fanciers hype up the cost factor, but I can only say that you get what you pay for--Sigs are worth every penny. After having to carry a Glock 22 .40 for several years I can say it is a welcome relief to be able to carry my Sig now. This is the pistol that won me over the first time I fired it, and no other gun has managed to displace it yet. Except maybe the DAK variant.....
This gun has really been through hell! Best Bag for my buck!
I have carried this gun for several years and it is very reliable.
Posted the wrong review. I thought this was the DAK. I own the 226 and the 229 DAK. you can't beat either one. Sorry Glock lovers.
For off duty (or on) I like the size not too bulky and still have the cap of the 226. I know this may sound strange but with my Springfield XD I have difficulty with my seatbelt. I guess the 229 is just the right size.
THE DEPARTMENT i WORK FOR WENT TO THESE GUNS AND THEY ARE ACCURATE AND VERY RELIABLE I HAVE SHOT THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS THROUGH THIS GUN AND NEVER HAD A JAM. EXCELLENT GUN!!!
The worked great after having 1000+ rounds fired from it and was easy to clean. My only problem was i have a hard time getting the slide lock lever to lock the slide back. I think more practice or a larger lever will fix that problem. The fact the Sig has an officer supply program make me as a Rookie feel good that i can get the best bang for my buck without spending a lot and still be ready for duty.
I agree with ckrayrandy, this is a great gun. I also have problems at times with the slide lock lever, maybe a little thumb edge on the lever would help. Ok, for some reason I can't rank it higher than a 2 but its a 4 in my book!
I had the DAO version and although I liked the weapon, I had a problem with the return spring fraying. I did have the I&NS version of it which was DAO with no de-cocker, .40 S&W. Sold it to a friend who has had nothing but good luck with it. Only give it a three.
My 1st sidearm was a sig p229, and I love it, I just bought a glock 23 but I am still in love with my sig. its just a great sidearm. fits awsome in my hands and is just a smooth shooting firearm.
The .40 S&W 229 is the gun I carry while i'm on duty. I have found it to be very accurate, handles beautifully, is very comfortable to shoot. I could not ask for a better duty gun.
I own this gun and love it.....this is a cadillac of handguns....very fun to shoot
Best pistol made by the best pistol makers....
One of the worst guns to use, in my opinion. Used to have one as dept. issue. Did not care for it and would not ever touch one again.
I like the compactness of this weapon. It is easier to conceal. I use to have a baretta and this has the same punch in a smaller frame.
I'm currently using the SIG P229 in a .40 cal. and I will never use another for a primary carry weapon. I've owned and used Glock, CZ, and Rugar semi-autos but this Sig beats them all. Well worth the $750 in my opinion. It's perfect in weight and size. It's also easy to break down and clean. It is the perfect sidearm, in my opinion.
Excelent durability - definitely "hell and back" tough - This Sig features a shorter barrel which makes it ideal for concealment and close-quarters. The .357sig happens to be standard issue service weapon for the MHP.
I use this weapon as my off duty carry. It fits the bill 100%. It fits my hand perfectly and I love how the controls are arranged. It shoots real good! A very accurate, well made, and rugged item. It has traveled with me into some remote places and I never worry that it witll function. I have shot well over 1500 rounds through it and it still works well. Well made pistols are like cars. Keep them clean and well maintained. They will serve you well.
Can't beat SigArms "to hell and back reliability." This was the first gun I ever owned. I still use it as my duty weapon because I've gotten so comfortable with it.
I just picked this up, I went from a Beretta, to a Smith & Wesson to this. By far the best of the three. I have fired many types of firearms and this has to be the best one ever. I carry the .40 S&W, wanted the .357 Sig but oh well. Sig's regardless of the model are the best on the market and worth the price. I like the fact it can be used as an on duty or off duty firearm due to it's compact size. Better than a Glock and fires smooth!
This is my duty pistol. I have carried this pistol for 15 years. Best handgun I have ever shot. When I retired they gave it to me to keep. Love it.
I carry this gun on duty. It is well balanced, easy to disasemble, has a fairly smooth action and shoots well. It is a good size for on duty carry & has been very dependable. It is issued to all officers on our dept. Although they are not required to carry it, most do.
I used this weapon when I went to firearms instructor school. I was also in a gun fight with the same weapon. It always operated flawlessly. This is one of the best weapons I have ever used.
This gun is great. I've never had any problems and it always performs flawlessly. I've got a 228 also which I can say the same thing about. I'd recommend this gun or any sig to anyone.
We just changed to the 229 40 Cal from the 226 9mm. Sig's are great guns. Part of our switch was going to double action only and that is an adjustment after 16 years of double/single. The size of teh gun is great for large and small handed officers.
This was the second handgun I ever owned...and it was great. I really regret selling it.
Very smooth, accurate and "To Hell And Back Reliability!"
The best handgun I have ever carried. I have the tactical rail model with the Streamlight TRL-1 light attached. The quick and smooth trigger increase the accuracy and make it a dream to shoot.
i have one love it my is a 357 sig its fell so good carry this one very reliable its no heavy or Lightweight you can use this one either concealed or uniform
Carry one as my off-duty carry in 40 S&W. Love the feel and grip of this weapon. Very accurate and no problems with it at all
I have the 229 in .357 sig. Extremely accurate and very versatile. The .357 sig round packs a great punch and has proven itself as a great patrol round. Love the ease of assembly and disassembly. The only draw back is the weight. Tends to get cumbersome when you are holding someone at gunpoint for an extended period of time.
We use the 40.S&W model at my Dept. I have carried it for 7 years now and probably put well over 5,000 rounds through it; never had a malfunction or issue with it. Easy to shoot and very accurate.
Awesome handgun!
One of the finest hand guns ive ever had. Absolutely love it in .357. Such a great shooter, prefer it over my issue Glock any day
Powerful weapon, accurate, yet small enough to carry off duty.
10 years of carrying one and one officer involved shooting..fatal for the recipient. Awesome weapon! Flawless.
I love this gun it feels like it was made for my hands it's hard to choose between the glock 23 and this at times.
What a sweet piece of work!!!!
This is a great sidearm, best I have ever used. I shoot the .357 version, and that is a great round. I have never had a failure with this weapon due to the necked down design of that round.
This thing hits right where you point it. You don't need to worry about "windage" or anything else up to about 50 yards. Excellent Semi Auto. I even bought one for myself off duty.
Would never own any other than this .4oS&W for concealed, reliable power.
This is an awesome pistol! I carried it as an issued weapon for about 5 years before my agency switched to Glock. The Glock is a fine weapon but it doesn't have sex appeal like the Sig! LOL Anyway we switched due to cost issues. The only upside is that we were allowed to buy our Sigs for $300. Needless to say, I bought mine. I just wish I could shoot the Glock as well as I shoot the Sig.
I own a .40 and love it, I don't fire it nearly enough. I took this weapon to the range and fired better with it than my issued weapon.
An instructor at our academy told us if you ever bought or used a Sig you would never be satisfied with any other weapon. He was right. My life depended on this weapon and it has never let me down. I now own/use only Sigs. " In a crisis, you will not rise to the occasion but rather default to your level of training" My Sig 229 and 220 are my best friends and constant companions in this uncertain period in American history.
This Was the first gun i ever bought...and i love it!!!...I own the p229 sct with the Truglo fiber optic front sights and the Sig Lite rear sights...it came with 4 14 round mags of .40 cal power...its a great gun that i can't stop going to the range with...
As a retired Texas State Trooper, Investigator, Supervisor, Inspector, and Firearms Instructor, I have never fired a better weapon than the Sig. This weapon has never jammed on me and has very little "kick" or movement when fired. It is a very accurate weapon with a lot of fire power. We, in Texas, highly appreciate a weapon of this caliber for protection.
AS A DISABLED RETIRED POLICE OFFICER I REMEMBER HOW ALL THE GUYS WERE RESISTANT TO GO TO AUTOMATIC FROM OUR S&W REVOLVERS......BUT AFTER SHOOTING THE SIG FOR A WEEK WE WERE ALL IMPRESSED AND SHOOTING AT A HIGHER LEVEL.....SIG JUST SEEMS TO BECOME PART OF YOUR BODY...PERFECT BALANCE AND THE MOST ACCURATE I HAVE EVER SHOT....IF I COULD AFFORD TO BUY ANY HANDGUN I WOULD CARRY A SIG...
This is my on duty weapon. The trigger pull is decent and it is easy to manipulate. The only problem that I have with it is that it is top heavy. But other than that she gets the job done.
This is my Dept issued weapon. I find it reliable, and recommend it.
Our dept has had this weapon for the last few years. Very relaible and easy to breakdown and clean. The night sights are an excellent option as well
Reliable, accurate and easy to shoot. Can't miss with .357 Sig.
Love my SIG. Use everyday as off-duty weapon.
Takes some getting used to but it has the power you need and takes a beating.
Best compact 9mm/.40/.357Auto currently being produced.
tough, accurate, & utterly-reliable.
The gun is small easy to conseal, light weight. I prefer the .357.
I have just purchased this gun used from my local gun shop. I would love to see what is done to the certified used Sig arms. I would never be able to tell this was not a new firearm! This gun will replace a Taurus PT 940 that I carry off duty. I'm sorry but that gun is a piece of crap. My brothers department issues the Sig 229 and he cannot say enough about this piece. For him to say that is reason enough for me to carry this weapon. Nothing is ever good enough for my brother?
20,0000 rounds later - still works like new. I have an original double action model. I have never experienced a problem! The springs are still the original & have been checked. They still function well.
I really like this gun. It is my duty weapon. Previosuly I used a Glock 21, and was dissapointed initally when I found out the new department I wen to used the Sig. Much to my delight, this firearm is so much smoother and more accurate. My skills have improved vastly and I truly enjoy my range time.
I have carried this weapon for over 10 years, shot thousands of rounds through it and never had a problem. Hands down, it's one of the finest handguns I have ever used.
Just qualified with this hand gun, and I got to say I enjoyed each shot! Very accurate, on target!
This is the best handgun I've ever had the pleasure of shooting and carrying.
Fits my hand perfectly, well made, accurate. Sigs are the best pistols I have ever carried!
Great sidearm, 2nd only to GLOCK!!
This is the best sidearm i have ever had the pleasure of using. Proven reliability and performance both in combat and on the range. I carried this sidearm in the sandbox and never once had a malfunction. I have put close to 6,000 rounds through mine and it still performs as if i just took it out of the box. I carry this in .40 and must say that this is a perfect round in my opinion. Plenty of penetration and knockdown power. It handles extremely well and, its compact frame makes it easy to conceal. If yours lifes on the line, the P229 wont let you down.
For those women and men, in law enforcement, with smaller hands, this gun will do the trick!!
Outstanding platform. We use it with the .357 SIG round and have found it very reliable. Great warranty as well is what helped this weapon top Glock in our bidding.
I have a personal one in 357Sig and carried on in MD as a primary duty weapon for 7 years in .40SW and absolutely love it. IMHO, a far better pistol than the Beretta that I had in the Marines, more accurate than my old S&W 5906 and feels more solidly built than my now issue Glock 23. If the 357Sig ammo weren't so hard to find and expensive I would carry this on duty now.
I love this weapon and I love SIG as a whole. They are my number1 choice!!
i do own a p226 since 8 years and work everyday with a sig pro sp2022, never had any jamming or breakage, these guns look serious and the brand is world known as reliable but the spares are quite expensive and in instinctive shooting i prefer my glocks
This was my service weapon when I was working, and when I retired I was able to purchase it. It is the best performing weapon I've had in 35 years of Law Enforcement.
This is the weapon of choice. . . . .give it to me. . . .
This is an excellent duty weapon! The action is smooth and the balance and weight are perfect. I used to carry a Glock at my former department and absolutely loved it but after shooting the Sig it has become a toss up.
Best gun I have ever shot. After 2,000+ rounds of ammo, zero jams. .40 S&W DAK issued to every officer on my department. Very user / officer friendly.
