It saves lives.
FROM ALL I'VE SEEN THIS IS THE BEST BODY ARMOR ON THE MARKET HELL THE GUY WHO CREATED INTERCEPTOR FOR THE ARMY SAID HE WOULD WEAR IT OVER HIS OWN INVENTION IF DEPLOYED TO IRAQ THAT SELLS ME ON IT I JUST WISH THE MILITARTY ACCEPTS IT THE WAY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY HAS I WILL GET ONE TO WEAR ON DUTY WHEN I RETURN TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT FIELD
I saw this on Future Weapons. Search it on youtube to see the vids. They tested this thing by setting it ONTOP of a frag grenade. It held up without a single penetration. If it can take that, it's getting 5 stars!
If this product gets to be the new standard in body armor, the big question has to be..Whats the financial cost? True... A human life can't be measured in dollars... but any administrator will ask the price before even considering it... I saw the future weapons episode as well... Layers of protection like roof shingles... It took a hard beating and did not allow any penetration...
Any thing that can perform under extreme test as well as this vest did can only get the highest rating. Being in the military I agree that I would want this if I was going back over.
This is 21st century tech. They shot the vest with .223 in fully auto mode, ak47 in fullu auto mode and with 9mm in fully auto mode, then they took this SAME SHOT VEST in the desert. This vest was placed on a military frag grenade with a large rock holding it down. It exploded and NOTHING CAME THROUGH!!!!! Now there is nothing else to be said. Plus it looks cool and properly named.
I have seen reports on this vest on several level, I have a friend that managed to get his hands on one and is wearing it in Iraq. He have stated is not heavy, comfortable, and not too hot. On "Mail Call" they shot it up and I was impressed at the close distance that the rounds from the rifles (5.56mm and 7.69x39mm) didn't go through it! I would like to replace my current vest with one!
As so many of you have said, this product was shown on Future Weapons. This is outstanding technology and would be a great addition to any LE's gear. If the price is right, I would buy this product myself, without the department's monitary help.
I give this a 5 because it can take the blast of a gernade. Watch Future Weapons if you don't believe me.
Does anyone know the price yet?
Have these received NIJ approval? Saw all the articles & show but also heard some problems withstanding heat. The bonding was relaxing during exposure to sustained heat. We cannot buy anything that does not have that approval.
From all I have seen and read this is an amazing product, but they have run in a prob. in the justice dept. From what I understand there is an issue with it lasting untill the warranty expires. On thier side, it is a 6 year warranty.
I could wear this lovely piece of much valuable equipment 24/7, even taking a shower [not]. It was, eventually issued to us in Iraq and quickly became an asset. You could ask the ones of us that made it back, a little damaged.
My hat goes off, and my heart swells proudly and at the same time sadly for my fallen brothers, whom gave the ultimate sacrifice.
I agree with rickhall156, when we were issued the Dragon Skin Body Armor in Iraq it was a God send.
rumor has it NIJ yanked its approval... I'll look for the details and post a link. As for the cost -I think it was somewhere in the $5,000.00 range for the basic barebones version.
VERY COMFORTABLE.SAFE AND LASTS.
the best body armor by far
It works, but also comes with a hefty price tag.
would love to have . but can not aford
Been hearing a lot of talk about this stuff. Some good and some bad. Interested to see where this new armor takes us in LE.
heard a lot but have not seen in action I would like to get my hands on one....
I don't own one but would do anything to get it. Currently only available in the SOV-2000 level, as the SOV-3000 is only being produced for the U.S. Military, it is by far the most amazing body armor ever created. There was a review on the Military Channel with Future Weapons as well as a review done by the good old Gunnery Sgt., R. Lee Ermey. This vest took multiple hits from an M4 Carbine in 5.56 Nato, an AK47 in 7.62x39, as well as an MP5 in 9mm, in full auto bursts I might add. After absorbing round after round to the tune of 20+ direct hits, this vest did not fail. What was even more amazing was the final test performed where the vest was strapped to a dummy and weighed down over a live grenade. The grenade exploded tearing the front carrier off and left a decent depression in the front of the vest with NO PRENETRATION TO THE INTERIOR! Unbelievable! A must have. Only 2 issues. Cost is pretty steep at anywhere from $2200 to $5100 depending on size and shape of the panels. Brochures are available electronically if you email Pinnacle Armor directly from their website. Seems no discount is available for LE. Also, the armor has recently lost its approval for DJS/NIJ funding due to insufficient evidence supporting its serviceability during the stated 6 year warranty period. That is also addressed on their website and should hopefully be resolved soon. Buy it if you can! It can save your life.
would love to wear this vest on duty. the demonstration was awsome.
The only question is how do I sell my Administration on it? I'm still wearing an older vest that doesn't fit quite right hoping it will work if needed. I'm also hoping that I never have to find out. Has anybody heard about the weight and flexibility of the vests? Also, it would be great if the company would do some sort of public relations campaign by assisting LEO's to purchase them on their own if their departments aren't willing to foot the bill.
Don't know to much about tatical gear but from reading the reviews... I am sold!!!
I have heard this shit works. and have seen video of the tests for it but i am still slightly skeptic.
To heavy and falls apart easily. A police officer might be able to use it, if the weight doesn't bother him, but its to heavy for a ground pounder. Tests showed it could not withstand heat (the inside of a parked car for example), and failed if exposed to gasoline (more applicable to soldiers but still a LEO might become exposes to gasoline in the line of duty).
Love the body armor. It's abit heavy for infantry units, but perfect for Tactical Units. The Tactics and Rescue unit in my area recently purchased Dragon Skin, and seems to love it.
Im sold but I bet unless you work at large dept. the rest are not going to flip the bill. Remember everything "we" have was the cheapest bidder.
I would love to be able to try this however I dont see my department even considering something this expensive.
The theory of this vest is awesome and I hope the maker can prove it's durability. Read the attached link as DOJ has removed it from their NIJ Approved list

I do believe that this product would be very good in the field. however IT WILL GET REALLY HOT!
IF THIS WILL HELP LEOS DO THEIR JOB, AND MAKE IT HOME SAFE, IT WORKS FOR ME.
If I were to wear body armor this would be the first item that I would buy.
Ok any body armor that can take a hand grenade directly without a SINGLE peneitration its good in my book and if it can take armor pericing rounds over and over and over and dosen't take a penetration id wear it all day if it wern't for the weight factor
I think this deserves more than five stars actually, because it saves so many lives, and can take so much pounding from anything being thrown in its path. I mean if it can take a granade hit, and not penetrate, then, it can take anything. I know i would wear it at all times if i owned one.
Amazing product that has the ability to counter the "upscaling" that officers face on a day to day basis on the street. Even though the government has rejected this product, there has to be a reason why the government has ordered the level 5 grade classified. This product will work and from all accounts (including surveys, reports, and articles) this grace...this dragon skin; it is the answer to date.
It's amazing and woth every dollar.....
I love this armor. I wish that the military would adopt this. I guess we will stick with the interceptors for now.
heard great things about this armor.....
I HAVE SEEN THIS IN ACTION BEST IVE EVER SEEN
One word: Horribble. If you would like to know why I think that just PM me
I've seen the demonstrations of what it can take. Cost is the only down side. I will get this once I get a bank loan.
i have a friend who got this for his b-day but he never wears it bc it to stiff and he cant move around in it
safety..first...
from what i've see this vest do its the best hard to top this one
This may be among the best body armor that has been produced. Yeah, it may be able to withstand a hand grenade at point blank range, but will you? The problem of blunt force trauma will ALWAYS be there.
Anyone know what kind of shock a hand grenade puts out? You military folk to. I would be surprised to see anyone survive laying on top of a hand grenade, no matter what kind of body armor you are wearing.
For those large caliber rifle rounds, the vest may stop it, but it would be the equivalent of getting hit in the chest with a sledge hammer.
What devildog911 says is true. I have seen this on future weapons AND on mythbusters. not a even a millimeter of the "pineapple" went through this stuff. Quality protection....must give it 5 stars!
this will stop a ak-47 round thanks for gittin new stuff for us soldiers
I would definately switch out of my current vest for this one. Very impressive test results.
this should work...
FLEXIBLE, LIGHTWEIGHT, BUT EFFECTIVE
stay away....there is a reason why it's NIJ rating was taking away....I will not say on here do to Officer Safety but lets just say depending on this body armor vs. the others may be a fatal mistake
