Tried and true. The MP-5 is the standard by which all others are measured. We had these as tactical weapons in 9 and 40's, and patrol carbines in the .40 Cal. Excellent round. H&K should reconsider. The .40 is a much better carbine round and they made a fine weapon. Cost is a factor, but you pay for quality and endurance. The ugly little cousin is the UMP. H&K for the budget conscious, and it works very well too. It's just not the date you prefer to be seen with.

I was able to test this weapon way back when it first appeared with a H&K rep. Immediately fell in love with it as did the other Officers testing it. One of the best, if not the best weapon for short and medium range ever introduced.

Let me start off by saying what a great weapon the MP5 and its variants are! I love this gun! It has the capability of being adapted to numerous configurations and fire controls by simply changing the trigger group. A compact very user friendly weapon. The selector is a reach for folks with small hands but to me, not that big of a deal. Now for the down side and the reason I gave it 4 stars. Its a friggin' 9mm (or .40). Remember this is a European weapon and the standard sub-gun and pistol caliber across the pond is the 9mm. H&K came out with this gun in .40 for the US market. The UMP is the next generation and seems fine, but in my humble onpinion, it ain't no MP5. If you study ballistics, you will see that a short barrel .223 is far superior to any 9mm in the CQB enviornment. It has better terminal ballistics, less penetration using modern police ammo, and has better long rang performance. I have shot the HK-53 which feels like a .223 MP5 and this is one great weapon! Another big factor is cost. These things ain't cheap. For entry work I would (and do) choose the Colt Commando over the MP5. Geeeeez I need another cup of coffee!

The weapon of choice (IF a 9mm round is suited for your environment or mission statement/purpose) for those in close quarters that don't want to carry the weight of a bullpup design or can't afford one. The original is pricy, but there is no substitute for accuracy and recoil (Non-existent). These rifles are nail drivers and offer good durability and provide great amount of confidence to their operator. They are not overly complicated and with a fire selector easily changed out this is the weapon many chose to carry these days when a 223 round is not an option.

If I had to stake my life any long gun/carbine this would be the one. What am I talking about it is the gun I take into harm's way. The caliber is fine because multiple hits on any target are a breeze. If you run out of ammo with this gun call Rambo. Beyond 50 yards I'd move up to a full fledged rifle but inside that distance this gun is probably as good as it gets. My only wish is my department would allow the SD version (suppressed).

Never been a fan of the MP5, despite being a fan of H&K in general. Suspect most of its popularity is due to the "look" and the fact that Hollywood puts it in all their shoot-em-ups these days. Except in the suppressed model, it has a severe high and right climb on full auto, best counteracted by carrying on deploy strap and using forward hand to push down rather than support (again, not necessary in suppressed model). Fine if you like wasting a lot of 9mm and aren't concerned about collateral damage, but not worth it if you want real precision.

I have been carrying a MP-5SD for three years, and I carried the MP-5A3 for four years prior to that. Both weapons were deadly accurate for CQB, but I have to agree with the other reviews regarding the ballistics. My team is in the process with upgrading to Colt Commandos because of the lack of penetration the MP-5 has to offer. The MP-5 is also not friendly to us lefties, so I actually shoot this weapon right handed. (Which made me much better with weapon transitions.) I carried the M-16 while in the military, so I will have not problem transitioning to the commandos. I can't wait!

overall the best smg ever made. highly accurate and easy to use. contrary to the product info the SEF (safe, semi, auto) or safe economical fun, trigger group is the standard. and their about 1400 dept price and worth twice that. if you buy a burst trigger group your wasting your money and substituting the mechanism (which further conplicates the fairly simply trigger group unneededly) for good training. an 8 hr day can let people who've never laid eyes on the gun master burst control. one drill to do this is alot of fun. just using regular printer paper put 4 circles about 3 inches and numbered 1-4. at about the 30ft line the instructor calles out the number and that number of shots goes into that circle in a single burst in full auto mode. this is the only thing i want to use to make an entry into a home. far and away the best.

I have fired a semi-auto version, and it is very nice as far as accuracy and recoil goes. However, in this day in age with the proliferation of criminal body armor, I would prefer something with more penetration, such as a .223 or a 5.7. Up here in the North, I see a lot of layers, so 9mm is never my round of choice. In my opinion, if a cartridge isn't at least 10mm long, I don't even bother unless I'm target shooting.

One of the finest submachineguns ever made, period. I'm an H&K certified operator and instructor for this firearm and its functional reliability is second to none. For a very long time, the MP5 was a favorite of SWAT entry and SpecOps teams worldwide. However, in recent years, many operators have replaced the MP5 with the M4 carbine (M16 variant) due to the increased operational flexibility of the M4.

I love this weapon for indoors and close range. The only thing I dont like is that the safety is a bit high combared to the Ar-15/M-4 type of weapon systems and cleaning it is a pain. The has a lot of hard to reach areas (for a q-tip) and the bolt is a bit tricky to put back together at first.

As stated before the H & K MP5 is the ideal close counter firearm. I Prefer the .40cal because it packs a nice punch to me than a 9mm. This firearm is very accurate and is needed when encountering any terrorist domestic or international. I love how it feels in my hands and close to my body. Besides a woman this will be one of the firearms close to my body.

The MP5 is a compact gun snd in use by many of the worlds anti-terrorist units. Lightweight and accurate it is ideal for CQB`s. The 9mm round fired by the MP5 is preferred by the SAS, and many others, in hostage rescue scenarios as it is less likely to pass through the target and hit a friendly. I LOVE IT.
