Description:

The Smith and Wesson SW-99 is a joint venture pistol between Smithe and Wessom and Carl Walther. It is a striker fired semi- automatic pistol with a total capasity of 13+1 in .40 Cal. It has an ambidextrous mag release and hand grip panels that can be removed and replaced to fit the hand gun to the operator. It has a rear adjustable sight for windage. The fron sights are interchangable depending on the load selected. It has a polomer frame with a stainless steel slide with a dust cover mount for lighting or secondary sights. Magazines are all Metal and fall freely from the mag well. All exposed metal surfacesare are covered in a dull black properitary finish called melonite. I have carried this firearms for close to 10 years now and as of this date I have not had one malfunction and the finish still looks new even though it has been carried in a Uncle Mikes Pro three holster during the time I have had it. The gun is very accurate and scores of 100 are easy to accomplish reguardless of officer strenth or stature. The manual of arms is easly placed into muscle memory. The best feature other than being able to fit the firearm to your hand size is the ability to decock the striker before disassembly. Unlike a Glock which has to be dry fired to dissassemble. The gun can be left in a single action mode for true single action throughout operation or decocked for a first double action trigger stroke and that it transitions to single action. It is a bet your life on firearm and I have nevr had one second though about it's reliablity or fight stopping punch!

Shot this gun a few weeks ago. It was plenty accurate for a duty/carry gun. I did not care for the trigger. It was kind of rough. I'm sure it will smooth out with time. Seems to be a good value. 15 rounds of .40 is nothing to laugh at.

I like the lighness and the way it fits in my hand. I had a Glock before this S & W much better. It does a good job when I need to qualify.

My department switched from the S&W 4046 to this weapon 2 years ago. I personally like the weapon and enjoy shooting it. However we are in the process of switching to the S&W M&P 40. BTW the weapon shown above is the M&P not the 99

I also like this weapon. Our Dept is also in the process of switching to the M&P this year. I have heard a lot of good things about this new weapon; I'm looking forward to receiving mine.

First off, just an observation, this is the S&W M&P 40, and its only been around about 2-3 years. the only reason i know this is when i first read about it in the sandbox, this gun was going through final testing phase. oh and also it holds 15+1. anyways, this is a great gun. i own one and carry it as my off duty weapon. its extremely easy to fire, as well as field strip. another added plus, i'm a left handed shooter, and this is one of only a few pistols out there thats fully ambidexrious. on top of having a reversable mag release, it also has a slide locking lever on BOTH sides of the slide, not just the left side like most pistols that are made for righties (psst, hey glock and all you other guys out there, there are left handed shooters out there too! lol) anyways, great gun, easy to shoot and clean, and very accurate. i highly recommend this gun

I recently acquired the .40 M&P and am very impressed! I am a firearms instructor with my Navy Reserve unit so I get to shoot frequently. I like the fit and finish of this weapon and the included custom grips are a nice perk. Their auto-load feature (after "shooting-out" the mag, when the new one is inserted, the slide automatically goes home and chambers the next round) is a second-saver in combat or in a tactical course of fire. Accuracy is standard and mostly depends on shooter ability but is certainly not lacking if you have the skill. The only reason I rated it at four out of five is because I still feel the Ruger P-89 is a benchmark.

Awesome gun, better than a glock. I carry it on duty no complaints.

I first heard about the sw99 while in the sand box and had to have one, as soon as I got out of service and into the dept. I had the chance to buy one and test it out. I love this gun! I shoot more accurately with it than the glock and it feels great with the changeable backstraps. I have not gotten a chance to shoot the m&p but am sure it is just as good or maybe better.
