| Description: | One of the most popular law enforcement models, the Electra Glide-FLHTP will give motor officers a smooth ride. The bike comes standard with a heavy duty charging system as well as police tires, rear rack, solo seat and antilock brakes. |
Excellent bike for the job. She can handle the corners and gets up and goes! With the extra charging power, it can handle running radar and the lights all day.
Sweetest motor bike ever made.
We have leased two of the FLHTPI's for 6 years and are going to buy 2 next year. Thay are great for around town and going down the highway. Not fast but quik enough to surprise other bikes.
This bike has a lot of get up and go..long lasting power to run extra needed equipment..it's also very manageable for its size!
Even though it's heavy and doesn't have a great hole shot for those quick accelerations to catch up to the 80 MPH speedsters, this is a great 'couch' to ride all day. Yes, that is right! I called it a 'couch' because that's what I felt like I was riding all day. Pure pleasure. And what job do you have that let's you ride a couch all day? Lotsa fun on this scoot.
Not only did I ride them at work, I have the police version as a personal bike too. Super bike and very comfortable to ride!
Just purchased 07 FLHPI. What a smooth ride.
I bought my 07 FLHTP in March 07 and have already put on over 12000 miles. I love going on long hauls on this bike. Comfort is the word. If you haven't received word yet, there is a recall on the bike to add a CRV (compression release valve) which they are adding to all the 08's. You get a new head out of it, which seems like a bonus to me. I took it in yesterday morning and had it back by 4:00pm. What a deal....Love this bike.
I spent several years riding this model. I will admit that it was dependable in that it always started when I got on it, but in other areas it left much to be desired. Like some other officers, I have never been that enthralled by the "Harley" mystique. I look at it as a tool used to accomplish a mission. As a police bike, its acceleration is woefully lacking. Top end is regrettably too slow at around 105 mph, and it takes all day to get there. I don't think it would do 110 if you dropped it off the Empire State Building. It's sluggish at slow speed and steers heavy at high speeds, or Harley's attempt at high speed. I will say that at 105 it is very stable, but anything that heavy has little other choice. The ground clearance is a joke. Any tight turn will be met with scraping running boards and often frame contact. Braking on the model I rode without anti-lock brakes was like stopping a Mack truck with crepe paper. I would recommend this machine for any guy suffering his mid-life crisis who wants to ease around and feel the rumble of a sweet-sounding engine and impress the young ladies, but for hard police work, it is ill-suited for the task.
I dont ride this on the job only because I am a K9 unit...However I have a retired
1996 FLHTP Police motorcycle which I have chromed out a little and added a CD player and the extra comfort double seat.. Never had an issue with the bike beside normal maintnance
It is a HARLEY enough said
this aint your daddy harley
Must there be something said?
Very nice bike this is what I think of when I think of a Police bike not this new stuff they have.
Love It! It's what everybody see's as a police bike. Enough power, speed, and agility to match anything. The Antilock brake option is worth the money. Watch the heat though.
I have a cousin and several friends that ride this bike everyday and they love them. I personally have never rode before and am considering buying one of these as my 1st bike and of course it being used for personal use. Any ideas or suggestions???
Keep ur jap-crap
Have been riding this beast for the last 12 yrs, and it gets beeter with age. While not as fast as some it is the most manuverable thing on the road at low speeds, and the balance is near perfect.
My agency leases the bikes so I get a new one every year. Poor me, huh? Anyway, my 2006 was awesome but when I got my 2007, it was a major step forward! With the new 6 speed tranny and the new, larger engine (88c.i. vs. 103 c.i.) that bike ran like a champ! Of course the 103 engine produces 23% more torque than the 88. Anyway, after it was broken in, I put a Screamin' Eagle clutch in it. The bike would chirp the rear tire in 5th gear! I'm currently breaking in my 2008 model. I really like this years Brembo brakes; they do a great job.
The HD is the ONLY motor to have for police duty. The only other option even close is the KZ1000 by Kawasaki and they aren't making them any longer. Some idiot command staff at my PD made the decision to order not one........but six of those EFFN BMW's for our department 3 years ago. What a EFFN waste of county funds. In 2 years our department spent over $100,000 in repairs and service on those 6 POS's. The dry clutch is worthless as is the overall set up of the bike itself. We had 6 HD's and 6 BMW's during that time. We have since returned to the HD's..........I never will ride anything but the HD.
It is a nice bike and it is a Harley which brings a large gathering behind it who like it simply because it is "Made in America" the BMW runs circles around it in almost every aspect. Faster more nimble and most importantly will stop at 80 in the same distance the Harley stops at 60. BMW also comes ready for patrol where lights and sirens are add ons to the Harley. Cost is about the same once the expense of adding lights and sirens but average service expenses are less over the life of the BMW requiring service at greater intervals. This means it is capable of spending more of its time in patrol versus waiting at the shop for service. If it researched just a little it should beat the Harley hands down for those who make the decisions of which bike to put the LEO's on!
Love this bike
Great bike but very expensive to operate
BIKE COP's DREAM and then some.....
looks nice for sure
This is a wonderful piece of machinery, come on its a Harley!!
you will never find a better bike than this one
ride one and you will love it too
great police motorcycle, smooth and comfortable. The ABS system is awsome. We will soon be
carrying AR 15 shorty rifles on the bikes with the motor officers, does anyone know of any mounting system inside the saddle bag for this type of weapon?
Nice patrol bike. I wish it had a little more get up & go, but its practical for what I use it for. Good lease option.
I ride a retired Toronto Police FLHTP, and by far it's a great ride for a touring Harley!!
I know a guy who has one, says it's the best bike he's ever owned.
Having been trained on the Electra Glide and utilized the Road King in the field, I find these wheeles to be very very manueverable and they can "take a lickin and keep on tickin". I also like the adjustable seat which really helps keep my posture straight while riding, and dampens some of the pounding the road dishes out. On the modles with EFI, I have sometimes experienced "stall out" while attempting to perform tight turn manuevers, even with proper friction zone technique. The anti-lock breaking is a plus especially while downshifting from high speed to avoid a situation. I am not an HD owner (YET).
We have two FLHTPs at my job and overall we are happy with them. We can't wait to get a new one with the bigger engine and anti-lock brakes. One of our Motors (and its Motor Officer) even survived a serious accident, with some help from a very competent mechanic. Ask motorcop46 about that accident. He was the unfortunate rider that day who was attacked by a runaway BMW Patrol Motor... Interesting story. Still a source of tension in our local network of Motor Officers.
Awesome Motor Bike!
MY WIFE WORKS FOR HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THEY SELL THIS BIKE TO MOST OF THE DEPT. IN MISSISSIPPI. THEY ALL SAY THEY LOVE IT!
