I carried the Beretta 92F for years and loved it. I was a Distinguished Expert with that gun. After I left the department I was looking for a new gun and heard many different stories about this one and that one.
I fired them all, well at least a few of the more popular ones, and found that I shot better with the Sigma then my old 92F. It feels great, is light and very accurate. The trigger pull is a little tight but just takes a little getting used to. It is easy to strip and I have never had a jam. All I can say is I love it and for the price it cant be beat.
I love this gun the trigger is a little tight but its as accurate as you make it.Whatever I aim at I can hit it dead on everytime.I dont have any jams misfires or anything like that with this gun.
I am carring this sidearm and I love it to death I will never use any other gun unless i fine one better then this one and that hasnt been done yet and when I carry this gun I am packing 45 rounds of 180gr Full Metal Jackets and I will say this very well done SMITH & WESSON and I also love the trigger it isnt a hair pin and it isnt lose it is just right thank you agian SMITH & WESSON
I got this gun 2 weeks ago and have been shooting it ever since. I have noticed the trigger is tight but will be replacing it soon. Other then that it shoots great and hasn't had a stovepipe yet.
PACKS A POWERFUL PUNCK.ACCURATE
this is one of my very first guns that i own a lot of power big kick
ONE OF MAY VERY FIRST GUNS LOT OF KICKING POWER
noooooo..... Couldnt wait to get rid of it. unless needed point blank range I would not trust this weapon for self defense. Feel free to comment or ask me questions . There is no comparrison between this and the Glock 22.
I didn't much care for the look, but it fits my hand well and shoots well. This is actually my wife's favorite gun. Takes down exactly like a Glock (which happens to be MY favorite) but for the price and ease of use, it can't be beat.
I have the SW9VE (9mm) version of this weapon. I alsop didnt care for the look, but it does fit my hand, and breaks down similiar to the Glock. It is a fairly good weapon.
I've owned my S&W SW40VE for about 5 years. It is a well handling and built firearm, and pretty accurate, but I found mine to be a bit picky with ammo. I tried to shoot Remington UMC (cheap target ammo) and had nothing but bad luck with it. The Winchester white box target ammo was a little better, but still had a few FTF problems. The trigger weight is an easy fix, it just takes a spring kit in the trigger mechanism. It fires Speer Lawman ammo flawlessly, and I have had only good luck with my reloads. I went to the Springfield XD 40 as my primary weapon but will hold on to my S&W. (It's fun to shoot)
Not even a good boat anchor due to the lack of weight. Friend had one press the trigger to the rear all the way to the frame 3 times and failed to fire. I know a retired instructor that found a dead fly in the slide that was causing a fail to fire. Nobody beats Glock for combat tupperware HK is a very close 2nd.
Simple, No frills fighting gun. Reliable, comfortable to shoot, and it points great. $440 is expensive, but its by far the best gun in its price range. I like it better than Glock because mine will eat my handloads.
I have owned one for about 4 years and have literally fired thousands of rounds through it without a single jam. Mine is not pick about any ammo I put through it. Fits great in my hand and is very accurate. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I Bought this firearm in 40F when it first came out about 15 years ago. I carried it for 12 of my now 14 years in law enforcement. This weapon was designed to compete with Glock at the time and S&W had to pay dearly for that. With that said, this is without a doubt the most durable firearm I have ever used. The trigger was tough for awhile but lightened over time. It never miss fired and is forgiving with sub-par ammo. It is easy to clean ( Breaks down just like a glock) and it hates, and I mean HATES alot of oil. Will fire dirty and wet. For the money it is a great first as well as long term duty weapon, especially for those officers that have to buy their own to carry at work without going broke. With the smaller grip it is also excellent for female officers and others with smaller hands. Minimal recoil and you can get every accessory under the sun. I will never get rid of this one and the only reason I don't carry it now is that my dept issued us Glocks and requires us to carry them.
I am in the market for a new firearm, I will keep this one in mind.
Product is accurate and easy on recoil. Only thing that im not a big fan of is its trigger pull. Very stiff. Besides thats it reliable. I carry it off duty every now and then but prefer my Glock 27.
my first off-duty sidearm. great gun, accurate. i beat two firearm instrustors in tic-tac-toe. i also split a playing card from about 5 yards (15 feet). however, trigger pull is alittle strong. overall, great choice.
good gun, nice to shoot, very easy to clean, bad resale value
Nice gun all around.
Great gun. Never had any jams with it. Gave it 4 stars because i could only find i type of weapon light to fit it, the M4 by streamlight.
I actually just purchased this weapon last week, I love the feel and it's very lightweight for personal carry. It also shoots very well, I am pleased with my purchase.
i bought the 40 used love it so much bought the wife a new nine.
even though i carry the glock 22 for work i keep the smith next to the bed for home protection.
i would buy more and when the chance comes around i probably will
the trigger is not as nice as the glock but i guess you can fix that if ya really dont like it.
i have left mine alone so far.
I just bought the sigma 9 mm its a good gun, small with a big punch, as accurate as you make it.
I love this gun, great especially for the price.
Very accurate and overall good gun for the money. To say the trigger is a little tight is a bit of an understatement. The trigger comes from the factory at 12 pounds and is not adjustable. Compare this to a glock at 5 1/2 ponds or a Smith and Wesson M&P at 6 1/2 pounds. It is very difficult to maintain accuracy with this gun at the range. Because of the heavy trigger pull your hand becomes fatigued very fast (after about fifty rounds i'm all over the place). I consider myself to be a decently big strong guy and a VERY experienced shooter and after fifty rounds i just cannot keep my hand from shaking all over the place. That being said, in a self deffense situation there is no better gun, it is very accurate and chances are you won't need to shoot any more than a couple of rounds at most.
i love this gum cuy a couldnt buy a glock at the time so i try the next best thing and wow truned out to b the best gum i every had and i have many now i own 4 of them
I just bought this gun 299.99 on sale and a $50 dollar rebate w/ 2 free mags from S&W. I have ran about 500 rounds through so far. I Love it. It is accurate, no jams, stovepipes, etc. it eats any of the range ammo and defense ammo I put through it well. To me it's feels like a Glock just cheaper. It field strips just like a Glock and I could probably change out a few parts for the glock parts and it still function well. And as far as the trigger pull try clean sweeping the trigger instead of waiting for the break and then tell me what you think. Remember. the trigger pull is a little heavier because there is not safety, so if you're thinking about adjusting the trigger and you have your CCW think about this: If you have to defend yourself with deadly Force would you want a prosecuter saying "Oh Yeah and he adjusted the trigger pull to make it easier to kill!!"? GREAT GUN!
i actually own a gun just like it and it shoots a breeze
Comfortable and well shooting weapon but has a heavy 8pound trigger pull from the box. After over 3,000 rounds and since owning the weapon since they were first made I haven't had any problems ( jams, misfeeds, stovepipe, etc.) Check out the M&P from Smith and Wesson with a few extra features it is well worth the few extra bucks.
I am happy with my Sigma DAO ( double action only, ) internal striker fired 40VE.
I have given this weapon a "4" partly because of it's value.
I purchased mine during a dealer sale and in addition to the S & W April 2008 factory rebate,
I walked out the door with this polymer ( a nice way to say "plastic," ) and stainless cap gun for $330.00 with 4 magazines. Such a deal! And it works! But seriously folks, this little guy is accurate, light and feels great in my hand but......the trigger pull is as long as the last day of school in June. I have had wrist surgery ( no; not because of that! ) and after several rounds;
it is pretty hard for me to pull the trigger but if you need that many rounds to hit what you are aiming at, you are going to need a lot more than just wrist surgery. I did not see a ton of holsters available for the weapon but maybe that is beacuse it is a newer model? I believe so. I ordered a Galco "FLETCH" leather high ride thumb-break which retails for $82.00 and when you spend 25% of what your gun costs on a holster; you know your gun was a good deal. Maybe cheap holsters are bad ideas anyway. A holster needs to work as well as the weapon in that it must fit and secure the weapon properly and let it draw smoothly so I did not have a problem with parting with the 90 dollars after tax. I believe Fobus has several holsters to choose from but I believe I remember Bianchi being sort of weak for pouch pics when it came to the Sigma. Again; I believe the weapon is a newer model so maybe that is why. Happy shooting.
I love this weapon. Its light, accurate, and very confortable to fire.
Ive owned this firearm for a few months now and have shot thousand or so rounds out of it... I am very happy with my purchase!!!! I have researched this weapon and came to find out that people had problems with the older generations of this weapon...This has been phased out with new generations... I recently added a LaserLyte rail laser site.... AWESOME!!!! I got it dialed in in about 5 minutes.. took it to the range and had to make one adjustment.. Other than that pull the gun ... where you point that laser is where it fires... This is made easier by S&W's 18 degree slope to the handle which keeps it inline with your arm and allows quick target accusition... I recently let my girlfriend fire this weapon.. She put about 75 through it and had no problems... Ive double tapped and all out ran the mag out as fast as I could and havent had so much as a hesitation with it.. Over all GREAT GUN GREAT BUY!!!!!!!
BLAH! Trigger pull is horriable! Give me a real Glock any day of the week over this knockoff
This is my first handgun purchase. Although the trigger pull is more than i care for, it is fairly accurate.
Like many before who have reviewed this weapon... I too own one & paid $349 for mine. I could careless about its looks (picture does it no justice) but, I will say it is fairly accurate & extremely easy to break down. I use mine for personal protection & around the farm target plunking. I never have issues with double feeds or stove pipes. My only issue is the trigger spring is waaay to tight & I will be replacing mine soon. For those in the smei-auto pistol market... if your looking at a Sigma VE or SVE (the SVE's barrel is about an inch longer), be prepared for massive recoil. This little boom stick will bite if not firmly held & handled correctly.
Even though I own one... the Glock 23 is my solid choice.
It may be ergonomic and it may be this and that, but the model that I had, I put nearly 200 rounds through, and could not get a consistent pattern. I took out all of the human factors, and the handgun still failed to perform adequately enough for me to trust it as an off duty, concealed carry. Tried it both in the 9mm and the 40 cal, and had the issue with both firearms, with mid grade ammunition.
Highly inaccurate, top heavy (even when the mag is loaded). I had numerous jams. I had to keep the gun very clean to a void jamming. I did fire about 2700 rounds through this gun, but the more I shot it the less I liked it.
this is a good weapen for a starter. its small and easy to consile . i own the s&w sw9ve 9mm. its almost like the glock if u compare them the tigers r nt the same other then that u r get the same results and for have the price. i thing i have noticed about both glock 19 9mm and the sigma 9mm is that both weapons jam up with cheap rounds but once i started using the winchester luger round the sigma has nt jammed or misfired clean or dirty for the most part it is a accurate weapon once u brake it in.
HAD ONE, DIDNT LIKE IT AT ALL. ONLY GOOD FOR A PAPER WEIGHT!
FIRST GUN I HAVE OWNED AND IS ALWAYS RELIABLE
have a sw9ve 9mm 16rds for 2 ys now 2000+ rds soo far only issue was mag drops while shooting.
repaired by s&w for free in a week door to door.
dead on at up to 125ft (range limit)
a favorite to carry 17rds is a good reason.
break down is a breeze
solid shooter
I paid $239.99 plus I got a $50.00 mail in rebate from Smith & Wesson as well as an additional high Cap magazine. How can you beat that offer? I like the fit as well as the trigger. Shoots flawlessly.
piece of junk. do not stake your life on it. I had to give it 1 star because it wouldn't let me submit it without it!
I purchased this gun for a great price. In fact when I got the gun it came with a $50 rebate and 2 extra hi-cap mags. So I now have the gun, case and 4 14rd mags. Put a crap load of rounds through it and no issues. The trigger is weird, but this also acts as a safety for the gun. If you don't like that part, you can just have a gunsmith take care of that for a small fee. Great gun for the price and no issues from my end.
I carry this as my off-duty weapon and I trust it with my life....plain and simple. The Sigma 40VE is not a range gun and it's definitely not for plinking. This is a straight up self-defense weapon. You hear everyone complain about the heavy trigger pull but, in my opinion, that's one of the outstanding features on this weapon. It has no external safeties so a slightly heavy trigger pull is your buffer between a clean, well aimed shot and an accidental discharge. If your in the middle of a FUBAR sitiuation, the adrenaline is running and you have to pull your weapon, do you really want your finger on a 3.5 pound trigger with SA? In my experience that would be a big no. I want DA with a heavier trigger pull...that way I know my shot is going where I placed it and I'm not going to accidentally let off a round. The time difference between letting off a SA shot and a DA shot is minimal to say the least so it's not really a matter of getting the shot off faster. Trust me, when your in that situation, your not going to feel the trigger pull at all anyways. Frankly, for those people complaining about how heavy the trigger is, you've got to be kidding. Apparently you got spoiled on your 3.5 - 5.0 pound trigger pulls. Yes it's a fully DA weapon for every shot but the average full-grown man should have no problem pulling the trigger without losing his sight picture...even under pressure. Everything else about the weapon is superb. It shoots POA, fit and finish is clean with very small tolerances and break down and cleaning is simple. The 18 degree grip feels great and it's even better with the Hogue grip I have on it. It's a comfortable weapon, conceals easy with the right rig and you can't beat it for the price. I've thrown about 700 rounds through my weapon and I have yet to experience any FTE or FTL's. I got mine for about $319 along with a $30 rebate. If you looking for a sub $400.00 self or home defense weapon...you couldn't ask for a much better weapon.
Just a little background... In my career, I've carried Glocks, S&W, Sigs and Berettas. I've won the Top Gun award three times and I was an expert marksmen in the Army (Pistols and Rifles). Of all the off-duty weapons I've owned, this one is my favorite.
very accurate. handles well. OK capacity. LOW reliablility after several rounds. tends to hang up with FTE (fails to eject) rounds.
Trigger pull is awful. Accuracy is good. Not well suited for on-duty carry. The firing mechanism has several moving parts which could malfunction if even a small amount of dirt was to get into it. I use mine for an in-car backup.
Good weapon. Problem free for years!
I have had this gun for 4 years now, and i have never had a problem with it period. Its been my baby! very accurate!
I currently use the smith and wesson sigma 40ve. I would not recommend this weapon for duty use. It should only be used for a bed side gun. It has a heavy trigger pull, which can cause you to "pull" your weapon to left or right.
This is my EDC weapon, and I have been carrying it for four years now.....and all this time I
have had not one FTF or malfunction.....yes the Sigma does have a hard trigger.....But I had
a Wolf spring kit installed and had the barrel ported and polished and put a Houge grip on it
and she turned out to be one fine pistol and fun to shoot,......
Owned this gun a few months back and had to replace it , not a very accurate weapon in my opinion. Although to the defence of S&W, it is a good fitting gun and not too heavy so it isn't uncomfortable to carry for long periods of time. I also put somewhere between two or three thousand rounds through it without fail or misfire, I wouldn't carry this weapon for self-defence but wouldn't have a problem keeping one for the range.
I carry this weapon on duty and have had no issuea with it it fires all ammo that it's fed and i've never had any issues with misfeeds or jams and i feel like others on this site i don't mind the trigger pull. when i need to conseal carry it's great i will be adding after market grips soon. the best part about buying this weapon was getting the 50.00 rebate along with 2 14 round mags fo4r the low price of 325.00. i will for sure go buY another one for home protection and will be buying the S&W 9VE. I would recomend this for the woman shooters because of it's weight and it's easy to shoot.
it has a kick, kinda touchy on the cheap ammo. the trigger is tight but you get used to it.
Extremely top heavy, tight trigger, and I'm not a big fan of the stainless steel-polymer mix. It is a decent firing weapon all the same...once you get used to it. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone other than an experienced shooter with many years under the belt.
