Description:

Colt M16A4 Rifle is the fourth generation of the M16 weapon system. The M16A4 Rifle still represents the world standard by which all other weapons of this class are judged. Its combat proven performance is verified by the fact that over 8 million M16 weapon systems have been produced and placed in military service throughout the world. With a record that is unmatched by any other weapon system, it is no wonder that the U.S. Marine Corps considers there to be “… no finer service rifle in the world today”.

It's an OK weapon. It is very versitile with the added rail system. You can place all kinds of good gear on it, ie- surefires, infrared lasers, NV Optics, and the awesome RCO Rifle combat optic by Trijicon. The weapon is a proven weapon used by Marines. With the RCO Marines can reach out to 600 Meters!!! I just wish it was a higher caliber and more rugged in harsh evironments. You have to clean it almost daily especialy after firing a few mags out...

My first weapon was the M16A2. So thats my bay-buh. However i am a big fan of placing a RCO or any ACOG for that matter on the flat top upper. And yes, the rail does make them very nice! Great accuracy and knock down( better then the 14.5 barrel). The only downfall at all is that fact that the cleaning process takes so long. I am in favor of the gas-piston operation over the direct gas.

    But overall. AWESOME weapon!

The only one better than this one is AK47 Kalashnikov, but it's way heavier than this one.

I used the M16 for 22 years, starting with the M16A1 to the M16A4. It is a great weapon system, but there were times that I wished it was a bigger caliber. With proper PMCS of the weapon system, to include the magazines, and the ammunition, this proven warrior it hard to beat.

Lovely weapon, versatile, user friendly (with proper training), accurate enough that 100 yard open sight head shots are a reasonable expectation.

The only reason for the 4 of 5 is it isn't 30 cal, but for the trade off of less weight with more ammunition it is well worth it.

Accurate, but finicky at times. In the right hands, this will easily reach out and touch someone at 500 meters without any additional sighting optics. Great system to put rounds on target with, and with the caliber, you need it. The length makes it generally impractical for room-clearing or extremely close urban combat, but with practice this can be overcome, albeit still a bit unwieldly. Easily a weapon to put your trust in once you've been trained and acquainted thorougly with it.

This was one of my first long guns and I have never shot such an accurate rife. It doesnt matter if you shoot with just iron sites or if you have all the little perks to set up a patrol rife or a swat rife.. Way to go Colt !!!

I started out with the M16 and went through the A1 and A2 models. While it has always been great for iron sight accuracy I prefer the chopped down versions better. The GAU-5A and now the M4 are better suited to my tastse. As long as you clean and care for it the M16 will not let you down.

I have used the M16-A2/3 rifes in Basic Training and in my unit. My problem is that we shoot 1 time a year and we only get 52 rounds.... period. Even so, I can still put the bullets on target. Can't wait until my unit gets the A4's... Wait!! we have to get the A3's first, lol

"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit.

My rifle is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but Peace."

First issue rifle in M16A1, great accuracy, good rate of fire and penetration. Down side, round is to easily deflected by any vegitation between you and the target. Fired expert the last three times I fire for quals. For excellant penetration the .308cal on the M16 frame.

I was a big fan of the A1 actually I used it at many funeral services and the A2 was outstanding so this rifle just adds so much versatility with add-ons, but who still isn't a fan of classic adjustable iron sights that stay true.

It is very accurate and lightweight compared to other military rifles, but it is just too damned picky for my tastes, even with proper PMCS. I just don't like taking chances. I would rather have my FS2000, or an HK 416 or an AR-18. I just don't like the direct gas system. It is really the only flaw of the weapon, but it's a dealbreaker for me.

Wow, I can't believe it's up to the A4 model. I had the A1 and the A2 back in the '80's. As far as weapons go it's a pain to tote around, but when it comes right down to it I'd rather have it on my side than any thing else !!

the FN M16A4 was a superb weapn system. i used to think colt was the greatest and was issued the Colt M16A2 in boot camp and my first month in the fleet. then i got the A4 and took it to cambat, man, love it. awsome killing machine. sometimes i did wish it was higher caliber like the 6mm or even 6.8 but 5.56mm is ok. proper PMCS is a must, but i can take more of a beating then people give it credit for.

You have to clean it and then clean it again. Once you know the weapon you can fire and reload with gross motor skill efficiency and keep your mind on what you are shooting at because it is simple. The effective range is a big selling point, especially since there are few targets you are going to need to shoot at 600 plus yards. The ease with which you can excessorize this thing is amazing and the weight will still make it a good choice. The military ball round is the problem with knock down power and hydroshock ammo takes care of that. It is a good choice for patrol options as well as infantry.

As with all M16 and M4 series rifles, it is prone to stoppage, and unlike the M4 entirely to long to use in close quarter situations. The military really needs to quickly rethink and listen to their troops when they request for a better firearm. Daily we must utilize this weapon in the desert against a far superior weapon the AK-47. The only thing going for this rifle is its accuracy.

It really is a great weapon. Carried one during boot camp for 5 months, this little beast kept me warm at night. Extremely accurate. I now carry an M16A2 in my squad car. Shooting a target outside of 25meters, this will guarantee the fight ends quick, with a minimum of follow up shots required. Especially when loaded up with TAP.
