Not all of us push a marked car around for 8hrs +. Although it's not as comfortable as the 1987-89 Chevrolet Impala (Old School REAL Police car); it's the only full-size(?) patrol vehicle out there now-a-days, thats somewhat roomy.
is the best handeling product there is! to be a cop you need one of these!!!!!
I dont drive a Crown Victoria-My first car was a 85' Grand Marquies with a 302, Pretty sweet car. I have however ridden in a Crown Vic squad (Front seat of course)the Crown Vic was a retired cruiser. The car was quite a ride quite powerful.
Our investigators drive this vehicle and they say they would not change vehicles for nothing.
Give me the old '69 Plymouth Belvidere with the 383. That was a work-horse.
Crown Vics are "Great" cars. I've driven departmental cars as well as owning a few former cruisers myself. You can't beat the dependability. They drive nice and can definitely take a beating!
I'm pretty happy with it. Would I trade it for a Hemi Charger? You bet!!!
I like it and it functions well. However, if dodge would come down on contract bids, the charger would blow them out of the water! We have had a problem w/ the electronic switch to the engine fans stop working in the 100 + degrees this summer. Thankfully, they are still under warranty.
I like cruising around in an unmarked cruiser. your able to sneak up on people alot easier and when they are all decked out with lights, its just too cool. id drive the unmarked all the time if they would let me.
If Ford would get off their old thinking duffs and beef up this patrol car, it could get the the dodge all the hell it wanted. Ford doesn't give their cars enough horsepower to do the job. It is a very smooth handling, agile vehicle. It's just very slow on the initial take off. Once its up to speed its great. Ford engineering seems to be slow to keep up with the rest of the industry. They came out with that very fast Mercury Maurader a couple of years back but then quit making it. If anyone owns or drove one of these vehicles, this would have been the perfect police vehicle. It was Fords answer to the Chev Caprice and Impala (94-96). Those were great vehicles. Ford has the ability, they just don't follow through. Fords are the ideal vehicle to setup for unmarked use. People just don't see them until the lights come on.
I love the crown vics but I do agree they have no initial pickup and go.....seems like it's sitting still at 1st contact but once you get it up to speed they fly.
I love the Crown Vic and our department is going back to them, the CV has great handling and I choose this vehicle over the new Implala's. Now the old Impala and Caprice could'nt be beat but you can't get the large Chevy's anymore. 5 stars for the CV.
Great car lots of room for stuff after the police stuff. Rides better than a Charger and has much better visibility and ergonomics and way more room than an impala. As far as speed it is quick enough handles well and brakes solid. Much better ride than a charger for a 10 hr shift I could care less for the go cart handling for the day in day out work of police driving.
Only full size ride these days. Ford has that nagging lag when you punch it. The Charger does not, but at 6'5" and 300# a Charger is a fine personal car, but not good to work in. Too cramped
This is my car. The best police vehicle on the market. None of the competition matches the quality of build as a Ford Crown Vic.
I love the Crown Vic. The only real full size rear wheel drive auto out there. I have owned a Crown Vic as my personal auto since 1993. Too bad Ford decided to break my heart and the 2008 model will only be sold to fleet owners and the police. Very bad policy there Ford!
Our Chief has his mind set that we are going 100% to Chargers. I'm due to get the next new car and I am very dissappointed. The Crown Vic is by far a much better made car than the Charger. On top of that, we are not buying the HEMI... WTF? Where is the benefit if you don't get that big honking engine? I'm very seriously considering keeping my 140,000 mile 2001 Crown Vic that still runs great. If anyone has gotten the Chargers and seen problems please let me know so I will have a defense in this!
The Crown Vic with the Inteceptor Package aka Police Package is a great vehicle. It's a super solid car which obviously makes you feel really safe in the car, especially at high speed. It's super stable at high speed... no rattles...no vibrations... nothing. With proper maintenance, this vehicle will last a very long time!!
In order for Ford to keep up in the market for Military, Local, State and Fed, they absolutely do need to up the HP/TQ numbers because the CV tends to be very sluggish off the line, which can be a a problem at times and with the Hemi Charger now coming into our fleets, this could pose a major problem for Ford! AWD might also be an option that Ford might want to consider because let's face it, the Vic isnt that great in snow...even with 100% Dedicated Snow Tires. The AWD should be an option like we have in our Ford Explorers - Auto, High and Low. This way when you are in Auto Mode, you wont have to use the AWD/4x4 and now you have the positives of a RWD vehicle, plus better gas mileage!
Due to the bad winters we have in the Northeast, I prefer my Ford Explorer XLT AWD. But that's for another review.
Also, a BIG FYI for those of you who are in the market for Pre-2008 CV Models: Contact several of your local Ford Dealerships, especially those who have contracts with your PD's and tell them to put you on a list for LEASE RETURN 'Vics. You can get a MINT cv FOR HALF THE PRICE!!!
Regards,
Justin
I drive one of these as a Corrections Officer on Roving Patrol, Eight hour graveyard shifts just me, my vic & an old school remmington shotgun... round & a round & a round we go! Its hard to beat this cruiser when in comes to handling & space, but it could use a little more padding in the seats.
just good enough for police work
I'll take the Crown Vic over the Tahoe anyday. But I'd take the Charger in a heartbeat.
I have driven Impalas and Crown Vics, but I have to say the Crown Vic is always the best.
bring back the caprice with the 5.7 liter engine thats way more a beast than the crown vics 4.6 liter
i like ot better than the impala old and new but the new charger i have yet to try
i love these cars, i own an former unmarked cvpi from LAPD. i drove it back to the east coast with no problem. its still going strong w/ almost 200k on it. though slow at start ,these pick up speed fast. wouldnt drive another car.
I have a marked and an unmarked crown vic and i really prefer my unmarked because I catch sooo many more ass holes with it.
Although my Crown Vic 1997 got taken away in 2005 and replaced with it with an '05 Impala, I really miss the size and power of the Crown Vic. It's difficult trying to fit all of the equipment I had in the CV into the Impala.
P.S. - c3863...I love your comments!!!
Gotta love the Crown Vic as a LEO!
Make mine white and stripe it green and put my light bar inside and you have my current issue 2007 cruiser And I will not trade it for any other police vehicle on the market. It preformes second to none AAAAAAAAAAAAAA rating
I love my crown Victoria, they are great vehicle's I love to drive unmark's
I want ONE!!!
Being a former highway patrol officer, I must say the CVPI has "getty-up" and is very stable @ speed. I have been on patrol in everything from a Plymouth Grand Fury to a Chevy Impala, and I can say this the CVPI is the best yet. I own a 2003 CVPI and this vehicle rocks....
