| Description: | Based on the Smith & Wesson model 4566 frame, this weapon is called the Tactical Smith & Wesson. Featuring a titanium frame, light rail, and night sights all standard equipment. The .45 caliber firearm has a single stack magazine for 8 rounds plus 1 in the chamber for a patrol ready status. Abie decocking lever makes it fully functional for either a right or left handed shooter. |
This addition to the Smith & Wesson line has some great features for the law enforcement professional. The titanium frame makes it lighter than the standard model 4566 and no need for the add on night sights. The weapon fits in my hand very well and is very comfortable to shoot making the marksmanship easier. The .45 caliber cartridge is a field tested and proven round that is an asset to all those who use it. This firearm does have a few drawbacks, however. Smith & Wesson auto are notorious for malfunctioning when extremely dirty and this weapon is no exception. This is not a problem for a shooter such as myself who is a bit of a clean freak when it comes to my equipment. Further, one problem that my pistol developed was a slight hitch in the trigger pull. A quick trip to the armory discovered the problem. A small spring that is permanantly stationed above the trigger had been bent slightly out of form. This probably occurred during a cleaning. A quick reshape into the original position and the problem was solved. This small hitch also did not pose a problem that would have made the weapon malfunction when needed. The only other issue that some may have with this model firearm is the standard issue of a single stack magazine. The limited ammunition availability can be an issue for officers whos marksmanship skills are lacking. For those officers I might recommend going to a different caliber firearm such as the .40 Smith & Wesson or the 9MM Lugar. However, I prefer the extra knock down power that the .45 gives and I do not have limited marksmanship skills.
I have the 4506, which is a great gun, on or off duty! I have since switched over to the Glock 21, due ot the capacity issue! But I still like my ole S&W 45. Very reliable gun, you take care of it, and it will take care of you! front Site Presssssssss!
The Smith and Wesson 4563TSW is a very nice weapon, but it is like having a boat anchor on my hip. The mags do not carry many rounds, I miss my glock model 23.
As a department issued weapon, it's my mandatory. The weapon is relatively easy to carry. Few Pros: Accurate, Lightweight, Great Stopping Power, No Mag No Fire (even with one in the chamber), Standard Night Sights. Few Cons: Low Load Capacity (9), Many Grooves to Get Dirty, Few Accessories/Holsters, Thin Handle, No Trigger Safety. Good Off Duty Weapon.
