A couple of years ago I qualified with my Beretta. I love the way it handles and shoots. After two years, it has never misfired. I am ready to try something new, like a Glock or Sig. It seems that they both are high on everyone’s list so I'm sure it comes down to personal preference. I’m still undecided at this time.
I went to the Beretta 92fs when I first went away from a wheel gun. It shoots smooth and even dirty I never had a malfunction. Easy to maintain and a prooven firearm
My primary duty weapon is the 92FS. Love it and didn't really want to carry anything else but my department went to Glock only Department. Fortunately got grandfathered in and don't have to give it up. The only thing is when carrying off-duty it does tend to be a little bulky unless I carry on the shoulder holster. Which at that point I switch over to one of my Glocks.
This is what I carry for a primary duty pistol. I personally love the Beretta, but there are definitely better weapons out there. But i honestly think the Berette 92FS is a good all around weapon. Quality is good and it's reasonably priced. It offers decent firepower and is undeniably reliable. It does have it's bad points (as with just about anything). 1. I really wish Beretta would offer this frame weapon in a .45 cal. 2. While not necessarily a huge deal, why has Beretta not kept up with the current market and started incorporating polymers into the designs of it's large frame weapons. 3. some of the exterior components ie...trigger, safety/ decocking lever and hammer, and mags are prone to rusting (which can be a problem for a duty weapon that sit's in a holster for extended periods of time) in humid envornments. Let's face it alot of duty weapons don't get removed from the holster/mag pouches ect...and cleaned near as often as they should. If Beretta would remedy some of these issues I'm sure it would make the weapon much more desirable.
Almost as relabile as my whell gun. Never had to worry about it
I carried this weapon for sometime, It is a solid weapon. We used it in the service as a sidearm and I am carring a beretta 8000 on duty as I write this review. All Beretta's are outstanding weapons- recoil is not that hard so getting the site back on target is not that hard and does not take that long.,the 8000 is a double action only and compact for those that would like a d/a only and smaller. So for on duty the 92FS- off duty the Beretta 8000 (cougar). You can not go wrong with either one and they both carry a 15 round (law enforcement) Magazine- plus one in the pipe for 16 rounds. I have been carring a Beretta now for a total of almost 10years and I am thinking that I may try a glock- but if I do it will only be because I want to go to a .45 cal for more stopping power if God forbid I ever need it.
I carry one for work and off work, it is great, I have used mine during shooting competion where I have put 5,000 rounds through it and it holds up, comfortable in the hand and well balanced.
I thought I would never say this but I miss my Glock!! This weapon has one of thr worst trigger pulls of any da/sa pistol. The new plastic trigger doesnt help. Its over priced and not worth it what was the military thinking? Weve numerous failure to feeds, bent mag lips, poor magazine will allow officers to feed more rounds then should be carried causing big problems. The receiver mounted safety is just not a good idea
While not my first choice, or second for that matter...it's department issue so I'm forced to deal with it. It's reliable, easy to maintain, and I trust my life to it. Biggest complaint would have to be the weight though.
I carry the 92FS on duty as well as off. It is a very reliable weapon, as I've never had a problem firing it. The only drawback is its size and weight for off-duty concealment, but once you get used to it, even that's not too much of a problem.
I have Carried the 92 for about 10 years and it has never failed to perform.
i like the feel of the gun it nice and not to hevey or to light it just right
I had the 92F model and shot over 10000 rounds through before it jammed up. I sent back to the factory and they repaired the barrell port and gave it some finishing touches for free. I love it and keep it stored away. My glock is and will be my duty weapon. I highly recommend a beretta 92 model for durability.
The three is because it is average- I've owned better (Colt, Sig, S&W, Browning, Remington Rand, Ithica) and I've owned worse (Colt, S&W). It is as reliable and user friendly as any.
I gave it up for a S&W .45 for the bullet and accuracy. My S&W and Colt .45s could keep it in an ear at 50 yards, the Beretta was doing well if it kept it in the 7-ring. Another Beretta 92 I fired could do as well as the others (ear shots), so maybe it was just the gun I got stuck with?
Either way, no better and no worse.
TWO WORDS STOVE PIPE
I went to the Beretta 92fs when I first went into law enforcement. It shoots smooth and well balanced. Ihave never had a malfunction. Easy to maintain and a prooven firearm. one of the best automatics I have shot.
I carried the 92FS for a year, I liked the feel and weight of the weapon, but when it came to trigger pull...it was all over, we could not carry the weapon in the hammer back position, so the first round was always off target because of the excessively long trigger pull, I was more than happy to get my Glock 22 back.
I've had my 92FS for many years and as said before, its never jammed. Recently I found two 30-round clips for it and they load great. It looks rather odd, but it's fun on the range.
Have always loved the action of a Beretta. This one is also pretty looking. However, it is still not a Glock.
I know a couple of LEOS that have a 92fs and they say it is real accurate I think the frame is huge and when on the range I did not like the way it handled
I've never had a problem with my berreta, and its very accurate at the range; nice tight groupings at any distance at the shooting range. Never had a jam since I bought it and maintanance is quick and easy.
I do not like this firearm at all. I have been using this as an issued weapon for over 8 yrs. in the Marine Corps. The biggest problems I have seen with my own weapon is the recoils spring gets weak after time and will cause the locking block to brake, trigger spring breaks easily, my safety broke off once (good thing it was at the range), my slide has cracked. I won't even go in to the feeding and extracting issues I have had. The trigger pull is too long and there is too much over travel with the trigger. Overall, I would rather carry another pistol. The military keeps buying them and I can only say that the military buys from the lowest bidder. That says a lot about this weapon.....
My department issues the 92 as our standard side arm. The pistol is very accurate and has severved me well on a daily basis. When I went through our academy I was issued a 92 because it was our departments standard issue. It never failed me in any training scenario. I never had it jam or give me any other problems. One or two officers have had problems but I would attribute the problems lack of up keep. I make it a point to strip and clean my 92 every couple weeks. The only problem with the pistol is its size. It is heavy and a bit bulky for smaller hands. I purchased a 92 for my own collection and I shoot it a great deal.
I LOVE THE 96 STAINLESS "40" BEST I HAVE EVER OWNED MUST UP GRADE YOUR GRIPS THOUGH
This was the first semi-auto handgun I had ever fired. I was working for a private investigator in Huntington Beach,CA and had to "qualify" with the 92FS. I upgraded to Pachmayr grips because the grip was a bit narrow. LOVED the Pachmayrs. Also this gun field strips in about 4 seconds and is very smooth firing. Never had a stovepipe with the exception of using cheap ammo with aluminum casings, ONCE.
ONE OF THE BEST HAND GUNS EVER MADE,.I HAD THREE!
The Beretta 92FS in one of the most reliable weapon that i have ever used. I have had any misfires or stovepipe problems with this gun.The 92 is a well balance weapon that can be used has a excellent duty weapon.
Not a bad weapon at all, but as a Military Police Officer, we are stuck with it. The weapon itself holds up well under some of the most extream conditions, I can attest to this having used it successfully in Iraq, but personally, the 9mm cartredge leaves alot to be desired. Not enough knock down power for fanatical extreamests hell bent on taking you out. Required multiple shots to take down assailant, as shot placement is not guaranteed on a high speed moving target fireing an assault weapon comming straight at you.
Reliable, easy to clean, and its purdy.
All around GREAT gun, simple to break down, and the rubber grips make it comfortable to hold.
I carry this as a duty weapon by choice. It is extremely comfortable in the hand when the grips are modified to the front wrap-around rubber style. It naturaly points and it's high capacity magazine makes it a good weapon in a multiple shot situation.
When good quality ammunition is used, I have never experienced a malfunction. However, with lower grade practice ammo, I have experienced some ramp/feed problems. this was solved by having a gunsmit polish the feed ramp.
The 9mm cartride is a bit "lightweight" by today's standards where most of the bad guys have .40's and .45's. But good factory ammo - such as hydroshocks - helps even this out a bit.
I also fing that the initial double action shot is not as smooth and tight as I would expect from such a quality weapon.
I recently added a laser to the weapon. I would recommend that officers intending to do this consider the grip laser. This product is extremely accurate and visible in most daylight conditions. In addition, it does not modify the operational mechanics of the weapon in any way, thus reducing/elimination the ability of a smart-a.. attorney trying to use such a modification when suing over a police-involved shooting.
All-in-all, a good duty weapon.
Use this firearm for qualification. Only problem was the size of the stock to my hand size. Other than that a really well made firearm.
Ugh. Only reason I gave this piece a 2 is that it's quite accurate. HOWEVER...
I would never stake my life on it, I used one for quite a while and it broke way too many times, even though I cleaned it religiously. I have also seen the mythic "slide-separation" and I had to render assistance on that person at the range before the EMTs arrived. (I was off duty.) Good thing I keep a kit in my range pack. Kimber Warrior (or other well-made 1911) all the way!!
I was first introduced to the 92F at lovely Ft. McClellan, Alabama Military Police School in 1992. Though this beautiful weapon has been demonized and pushed aside by the recent 'utilitarian' craze, there is something to be said about a gun that is just pleasant to look at. Though I am now required to carry the Glock 22, I still have a well-oiled 92FS within reach!
I carry this for my part time dept, other than being a 9mm, i love this gun!
Love it so far and it shoots true at 25 yards. large capacity nd many products available for it.
Very accurate weapon at long ranges. Very balanced without a lot of kick back. Good capacity in a very easy to hold package for those of us that don't have large hands. Only drawback is that it is a 9mm and lacks the "punch" of a .40/10mm or .45.
This gun is heavier than most. But it by far oneofthe most reliable that I have owned.
We carry this as our duty weapon. It has failed one of our officers and cost him his life. I give it an "A" for accuracy but it's very picky and must be well maintained to ensure proper function. Hopefully we will have new weapons soon.
Currently i cary a 92fs as my duty weapon. I have never had a problem with it and it is easy to qualify with because of the weight and long barrel it is very accurate for me. I am keeping it as a duty weapon but i will be buying something a little smaller for off duty. The 92fs can be a little bulky.
THIS IS THE GUN THAT I WAS ISSUED WHEN I WAS WITH THE LASD. IVE NEVER HAD THE GUN JAM ON ME WHILE IN THE FIELD. AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT CLEAN AND WELL OILED THIS GUN WILL NOT JAM. ITS A VERY EASY GUN TO SHOOT. I HAVE A LASER SIGHT ON MY GUN AND GET HITS EVERY TIME WITH MY LASER.
I used to own and it's a fine weapon.
I have own my Beretta 92FS since 1991. I would not change for the world. I just qualified with it at the Miami-Dade College School of Criminal Justice a few weeks ago...Yes, I am joining some Auxiliary/Reserve Forces in Florida, after 15 years as an NYPD Auxiliary... Go figure....
Since we switched from the S&W .38 Model 15 to the 92 FS in the USAF, I have really loved this gun. Accurate, steady, reliable and easy to clean and have never had so much as a stovepipe with mine. I don't doubt others have had some though, I probably haven't put as many rounds downrange as they have.
I own a 92FS INOX and do well in compitition with it. I have carried one for 19 years. Have seen malfunctions and breakages over the years - most due to rubbish ammo or magazines - a few were locking block failures due to eleventy gazillion rounds fired with no overhaul. The beretta is a fine handgun and its main problem is military ammo - MILBALL sux in every way. Further the issue (non-beretta) mags are rubbish. For duty carry where a manual safety is required, it really is first class. That being said - off duty I carry a GLock 29 in 10mm.
