| Description: | THE BARN BOSS. The Cook County Jail Barn Bosses were the toughest, meanest and the most feared inmates in each section of the jail. The Barn Bosses took control of the jail from the jail officers, and ruled with intimidation and violence, which would sometimes result in deadly force used against another inmate or staff member, or whoever got in their way. The Barn Boss and his henchmen had homemade knives, store bought knives, clubs, and all sorts of weapons, and would use them. They had everything but the keys to the outside doors. On March 14, 1968, Sheriff Joe Woods was fed up with the mess, and recruited child psychologist, Winston E. Moore, as Warden and sixteen prison guards from the Illinois Youth Department of Corrections. The leader of the small crew was ex-ranger paratrooper, retired professional fighter, and kick boxer, C. R. English. Their mission was to take control of the jail from the inmates. This would not be an easy task, but you will do best to put your money on English and his crew! This may be a KO in the late rounds, a fight to the finish! Action, drama and suspense from start to finish. |
Interesting to read about a bygone era of the Cook County Jail in Chicago. Very well written. Easy to read. 125 pages.
