| Description: | This book is the result of 125 Chicago policemen sitting down with Prof. Connie Fletcher of Loyola University at Chicago. In order to give them the freedom to speak without fear of being transferred for political reasons, the names of the policemen interviewed are at the end of chapter, without identifying which policeman was responsible for each excerpt. This is not a book for the faint-hearted. It should transform the most hopeless pacifist into a gun owner, if there is any possibility at all. The chapter on home invasions, in particular, is terrifying in its descriptions of the sorts of sadistic brutality done to people inside their homes. |
This book rocks. Its one of those types that you cannot just pick up and read a little. You will want to read the entire book before putting it back down. I am one that hates to read and I hate books. I was quite skeptical about this book but was pushed into buying it and reading it. It only took a page or two to get me hooked. AWESOME READING!!
I read this book a few years back and thought that it was rather good reading and to was easy to picture what they were talking about.
This is one of the most useful and outstanding books on the basics of police work to date. It's the result of testimonials and knowledge acquired by over a hundred Chicago PD officers, which should ring true to every officer that picks it up. I picked this book up when I was a rookie (at the behest of one of my old department's Captains) and have found it to be invaluable as a source of information as well as entertainment. The book covers everything from basic street work to homicide, violent crimes, prostitution and narcotics. "What Cops Know" is an absolute must-read for any law enforcement officer in the U.S.
If you are the police this book is a must read.
A must read for all esp rookies
I personally own this book. I too was hooked from the first couple of pages. It is a remarkable book that allows the reader (especially police) to be able to actually picture what was going on. It gives light o many theories and facts, that we as police are often faced with. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to read something that will grip your heart strings and send you on an emotional roller coaster.
I have this book. An excellent read from the daughter of a cop.
I'll have to get this one, sounds good.
this was the first book that I read as a new officer. It is very entertaining and once you start reading it you can't stop.
A good read for the Street Cop in all of us. You will laugh, cry, and shake your head in agreement as you read.
Simply put, this book is super! So easy to pick up where you leave off.
High visual insight into the storytelling and scenarios.
Very enjoyable and a repeater! Recommended as a great starting point
for those about to jump on board. You'll be hooked!
I read this book a few years ago and its a quick read, once you pick it up and start reading it you're not going to be able to put it down......
Read it twice, loved it! This book hits the nail on the head from what I've experienced and what I've heard. It really can give a person a good idea of what LE is all about. An excellent book and a quick read. You won't want to put it down.
This book should be required reading in schools and CJ classes. I got the chills when I read this book and had a much deeper respect for LEO's and a greater understanding for their demeanor.
