| Description: | the smallest retractable ASP. |
this is the smallest of the asp retractale batons. i saw a super light weight one that is aluminium, but not sure it is an actual ASP product. i have the regular one, it is small and compact easy to use. i plan on getting the lighter one to lighten the load of my gear.
An outstanding product that gives you all the advantages of the pr-24 with the easy carry option. For even better carry try the ultr light options, amazing.
As a state certifed physical tactics instructor I dont like it. The PR24 is the best baton to use. However most agencies feel it looks intimidatingbut still I keep a pr-24 with me.
My dept is thinking of going to the asp... the dept has been using the pr-24 for years but due to budget problems we are still using the full pr-24 and many officer won't even carry them. the only time they (pr-24) comes out of the lockers is for uniform inspections.... I used an expandable pr-24 when I was in uniform everyday but I had to purchase it myself.... I was trained at my first dept in using an ASP and the one thing that I remember from the instructor is that the ASP is a stick; yes you can use the ASP to do about half of what you can use a PR-24 for.
all thou i never used it its better then a night stick more compact and not swing all over the place
I have aready post a review on this product. However, after seeing it posted several times I think I need to re-post. This product is CRAP. I had one and used it several times. Left nice marks/welts on skin but no effect on stopping the fight. Mine collapsed to many times during fights. Partners bent shafts. All the weight is in the handle making the need to sing very hard. I swapped mine for the RCB ( Rapid Containment Baton) by peace keeper products. The RCB is machined better for less chance of collapsing. Larger striking surface, and the weight is not in the handle. Used mine 3 times now and it has been 10x's more effective. just imagine the Asp results times at least 10 (in my opinion 100x's). dump ASP, ASAP!
It's not all that. I have seen them break while using them to gain control on a suspect. Is what it is. My department issues them so we have to carry them. No biggie, better than nothing it is.
The agency that i work for issues the 26'' asp batons to all officers. I think it's great, lightweight, compact.
Have used several times in the past 15 years. It works and stops subjects on their tracks.
A great baton in close or at a reach...easy to carry, lightweight and easy to draw
A perfect item to carry when you don't have your firearm (God forbid!). But in training, I found it is an excellent way to disarm a knife wielding subject. Its hard to hold onto the knife when the bones of the hand are broken. Don't go for the knife, go for the bones.
And....Surviving Edged Weapons is a must see for any officer.
An OK product. Not in the same league as the PR-24, but more easily carried on the duty belt. Good for that first initial hit, but you better be ready to transition to something else when it collapses on you!
I carried one for 15 years...and was an ASP-certified instructor.
It dosen't have the stoping power and is to short, but it's better then nothing.
I have actually never had to use mine, but I sure an glad it's there if I ever do.
