Description:

Following his best selling, Pulitzer Prize nominated book On Killing, Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, with Loren W. Christensen, present On Combat, a ground-breaking examination of what it takes to perform, cope and survive in the toxicity of deadly combat as a soldier in a foreign land, and a police officer in the mean streets of urban America. Written by two warriors who have been there and done that, On Combat looks at what happens to the human body under the stresses of deadly battle — the impact on the nervous system, heart, breathing, visual and auditory perception, memory - then discusses new research findings as to what measures warriors can take to prevent such debilitations so they can stay in the fight, survive, and win.

This book should be required by anyone who deals with violence. From understanding the physiology & anatomy of combat stress, to perceptual distortions, and how to cope with the aftermath of a violent confrontation, this book is an absolute priceless asset to the modern warrior.

Section 3 in the book, titled "The Call to Combat: Where Do We Get Such Men?" was an excellent read helping to explain where modern warriors come from and why we do what we do.

I wish I could afford to give this book to EVERY cop who graduates from the Academy. Understanding the principals in this book will help you not only survive, but to live life as a Warrior. If you haven't read it, go buy it and READ it. The sooner the better.

Another great work from Col. Grossman. Like many of you I have seen the Colonel in person. He is a no-nonsense, tactically sound and common sense military man with huge credibility. As stated before, this is a must read.

Absolutly awsome reading for anyone in law enforcement and military. Anyone who has been involved in a deadly force encounter will find this book and his book On Killing eye opening and therapeutic. I recomend all of his books. I also recomend anyone to try to attend one of his classes if possible- you will be amazed by the energy, knowledge, and reality of what is out there and the information he supplies to our profession. I believe these two books should be required reading.

I have been to two of LtCol. Grossman's seminars as well as reading his books. I can strongly recommend both. Outstanding books for both LEO's and Military personal alike.

This book covers everything the police academy didn't. I read his book "On Killing" as well and I highly suggest it. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman knows how to speak to his readers. You understand why you think the way you do as a warrior. Easy reading books...My Bible is my favorite book, but my second and third are "On Killing" and "On Combat". Also if you ever get the chance to get to his seminars, GO! ******IT MADE ME KNOW I'M A WOLF BABY!!!!!!!! and I got to laugh at all the little sheepdogs.

I haven't read the book but I do have the audio copy of his speech which is outstanding. If you should ever get the chance to here him in person don't miss it. I had the chance and it was great, LTC Grossman is one of the best speakers I have ever heard. His siminars are usually free; don't miss it.

After reading On Killing by Lt.Col. Dave Grossman I just had to read this one. I’m not to sure which book is better but, they are superb books none the less. This book is a real eye opener into the psychological effects of combat, and it is a good read for anyone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get some fantastic insight into the human mind. Any non fiction book Lt.Col. Grossman writes I will be a fan of, one of my favorite authors.

This should be the first thing a new LEO is handed when they are hired. This lets the newby see just what they are going to find out on the street. A wonderful read. Take the time to sit down and read, and when finished reread. For me this is an essential part of my job.

This book does an excellent job delving into subjects that we as "rough, tough" cops don't want to get into. However they are essential for surviving lethal encounters. Knowing what to expect from you mind and body before, during, and after a deadly encounter is a valuable weapon in our arsenal.
