I have owned and /or used this model for quite a few years. To this date, I have yet to have this weapon malfunction. Disassembly is quick and easy and with regular cleaning this weapon is a reliable partner. I know it doesn't get the press that a Beretta or Sig does, but I wouldn't go into a hostile situation without it.

This was my first duty weapon. I loved it, I could actually shoot very accurate with it, and I'm not a great shot. The only downfall was that you had to keep it very clean and lubed with tehlon oil or it would jam, But as long as you did that it was great.

I have carried and used Ruger P89's for about 8 years and would not have anything else. It is the working man's gun.

Out of 10 years of HEAVY use I've been thru one barrel change(about 200 to250 rounds per week) it has never jammed, failed to fire, and is one of the most accurate firearms I have ever fired.

Basically a fine instrument. It's more accurate than most firearms instructors, and quite reliable. Mine tolerated lots of dirt, still worked great. Only one thing - there was ONE aftermarket magazine that developed abnormal wear on the little slot that positions it in the mag well, so it stopped feeding correctly. Just repaced it with a good magazine, and things were back to great. I only carry 15-round mags, and aftermarket mags are not always the best. I regularly bet my life on the P89 with good mags, though.

I own a pair of P-89's and after shooting thousands of various manufacturer's rounds with them, I can assure anyone that reliability is never an issue. Every malfunction I have ever encountered has been ammo-related. For me, the larger grip is a plus and the longer trigger pull is an asset for someone who can't shoot every day, as it forces you to have great trigger-control. As a weapon it is almost perfect for the price. It's my own opinion, but I think this is a benchmark weapon. As a duty weapon, we all agree that 9mm is not optimal but for a back-up or for training, the P-89 is a medal-winner in my book.

If I must say! I have carried my Rugger for the last 13 years due to my brothers persistance. he has one. and whenever I go to the Gun Range With my department I always qualify the first time around. , My rugger has only jammed one time during qualifications. I would not want to carry any other weapon. If you keep this gun cleaned and oiled, she will never let you down.,

Good gun, but heavy and bulky.

I have owned my Ruger P89 for 7 years now, and through heavy use at the range has not jammed at all. Performs flawlessly! Did have to send it back to Ruger for repair recently, started seeing my shot groups drop 4" at 30 feet. They ended up replacing the barrel for free, and sending their test target back with it to prove its new found accuracy. I carry the original 10 round mag, along with two 15 round mags. I also replaced the original grips with a Houge grip. This is probably not the easiest firearm to carry on shift due to its size and weight, but I always know it will fire when I need it to.
