Posted 4 months ago I was at the range a swat guy recommended it. My days in swat was 15 years ago and we had MP-5s so the AR-15 is new to me.

Posted 4 months ago I have a question about the Blackhawk Level 3 Duty SERPA Auto Lock Holster. I recently got to handle one for a few minutes at the SHOT Show, and I was not impressed. I carried the Safriland 070 SSIII holster for many years and had no problem with learning that draw. But the Blackhawk Auto Lock confused me and seemed way more complicated that was necessary. I know that many people swear by the Blackhawk products, but I was not impressed by this one. I have also heard that dirt and debris can get into the mechanism and jam up the locking device on the side of the holster. I’ve seen how much crap and debris can accumulate on and inside of duty gear just in routine duties. I had a friend on the USBP who spent most of his shift in the underbrush, and he had to clean his weapon & his gear after every shift, he got that dirty. Dose anyone have personnel experience with this holster? How is it working for you? I have no problems with Blackhawk’s quantity and strength. Their other products are all first rate. Thanks.

Posted 4 months ago I'm with grunt, the Safariland 070 III saved my life once and I'll never leave it. The button concern me on the Serpa.

Posted 4 months ago Well, i've got the standard serpa drop leg platform for my M9 over here.. the dirt does cause a problem after a while if you dont wipe it out every other day. Decent holster, not to good for the finish of the weapon. The only real qualm I have is that if anything touches that button even a bit.. you better have a pistol leash on it or else you maybe looking for your pistol. I have never really understood the 'folding' concept, it is one more step that you have to take before getting the rifle into the fight. I have fired an M4 with one folded up under the handguard, and did not find it too incredibly comfortable, but to each his own. Here are a couple of links to some of the more reputable manufacturers of folding VFGs: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/productdetail.aspx?p=21380& http://www.commandarms.com/product.asp?pID=31&cID=12 Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil.

Posted 4 months ago gruntdeputy said: I too have the horror stories associated with debris getting behind the release and locking the gun in, but have never experienced it myself. I carry a SERPA exclusively off duty and have never had a problem, but I can see where daily carry while on duty may give one some cause for concern. I agree that the Safariland 070 is the finest duty holster available. Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil.

Posted 4 months ago Thanks GTS, the commandarms was the one he suggested. My rifle is in a bag in the trunk with a overvest so I have to take time to get it set up on an active shooter. Thats the problem with being a Dick, a coat and tie everyday.

Posted 4 months ago Its not too bad, been doing 12 years and don't want to change. They gave us the rifle because we are supervisors but I insisted on Outervests so we have POLICE on us and we don't get shot. I'm also looking at clone EOtech 551 for about $120. The $350 for the real one will be tough to swing but the PD may buy real ones next year.

Posted 4 months ago Be careful of the clones. They are notorious for having substandard quality and not holding zero. Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil.

Posted 4 months ago Thats what worries me, I'll see how long before the PD buys them. Thanks for the info.
