| Posted 8 months ago I'm with you goldskull. The snoring of 80 detainees or inmates is what I hear all night. We get the occational toilet flushing that REALLY breaks the silence. I work in a direct supervision facility so, I get to hear everything. From 2200hrs to 0530hrs it's pretty much dead silent. We work 12hr shifts here..1900hrs to 0700hrs. thats my shift. |

| Posted 8 months ago We work 8 HR shifts at my facility. I try to work the night shift as much as possible because thats when I'm most awake ( a little wierd I know, but I got used to it from my past 2 jobs). I work days too sometimes, but my nights are a lot like COman's. Every couple of nights when I'm on the block for the first hour or two the inmates like to make noise and act like idiots, but they usually quiet down after an HR or so. Then we have the 302 inmates who sometimes wake up and yell at ghosts or whatever they are seeing, but for the main part it's quiet. Then theres new commitments sometimes and they can make things interesting. Recently I started working in our Work Release Center 1-2 times a week and that is SO quiet! Thats our break down of things. |

| Posted 8 months ago When i worked on HEDS(bracelet program) i loved nights. i would drive by a few houses if there were problems with the equipment and then back to the office to "work" on the computer. inside i work center control so even on midnights i'm always counting radios, buzzing doors, and checking on the patrols. it does help the night go by faster. |

| Posted 8 months ago I hated the jail at night....the male inmates were fine, but the females were up all night giggling and talking like it was some kind of slumber party....and they participated in other activities also.......I give anyone credit for working nights in a CF....god bless. | Posted 8 months ago I've been working this shift for almost 8 yrs. now. I've gotten very used to it and it works good for the family. We have 2 facilities and I work strictly males, don't need the hassles that go with dealing with females. |

| Posted 8 months ago I just recently went to overnights....was bid off dayshift by a more senior officer...(oh well stuff happens)...I actually am enjoying it. I am assigned to Seg 2 nights a week so those nights I stay active as our seg inmates are riled up all the time. I'm assinged to the work release/trustee pod one night a week so with the inmate workers in and out all night (we have overnight trustee workers that clean and buff floors and offices overnight, as well as work release inmates that actually work second and third shift jobs off site) so there is alot of movement there also. And on the other two nights of my week I'm working relief officer and hallways so I'm always somewhat busy. Kyle313

| Posted 8 months ago Gonna be a long night, it's gonna be all right I've been working 2145 - 0615 for a bit over a year now, and I love it. I started working night shift for my family. The way it usually works is I go to work after the kids are in bed. I get home in time to put them on the school bus, and I wake up in time to get them off the bus in the afternoon. We do homework, cook dinner, play for a while and then we start all over. Since I work 6 days on and 3 days off, my off days don't always fall on a weekend. That's when it really sucks. The kids are home and awake, and I want to be with them, but I gotta sleep. The other part that really sucks is that even though my wife and I share a bedroom, we very rarely share a bed.... | Posted 5 months ago I work the Midnight to 8AM or 1st shift as they call it here. Very boring..especially if I have to go to post (perimeter patrol) I pass the time by spotlighting for deer and other creatures of the night. Sometimes I get called to check a particular zone because the alarms have indicated a breach...but non the less it's a skunk or a raccoon rooting around in the dog run. If I'm not on post I'm in my regular assigned dorm. Close management i/m. They still screw up in their sleep !!! Caught 2 of them sleeping naked. We let them off w/ a verbal warning, one of which I regret, he needed to go to confinement !!!! He's in my radar now !! Sux to be an i/m on my watch !!! |

I used to work seg where it didnt matter what time it was people where yelling making all sorts of noises and being routy. liberty or death, what we so proudly hail, once you provoke her. You will hear the rattling of her tail. She will return with a deadly bite, so dont tread on me |

| Posted about 1 month ago I work from 0000 - 0800 and normally i am at the control post for the first 4 hours, ( that is where i sit in a room and open doors, run the intercomes and thats about it.). TVs off at 0030 and from there, there is nothing else to do untill we push in cleaning supplies at 0530, we make them clean their dorms every day. While that is going on we take them out to rec, and get breakfast around, pass out medication and that is about it. There are only 2 COs and a Supervisor on third here. |
