What fits in your hand best? Start there and then ask about accuracy with different loads, magazine capacity, safety features, etc. Both are good weapons, I personally prefer my Glock 35 over the G22 and I will probably pick up either a G23 or 27 for a backup soon.

The S&W M&P is a great firearm. However, you can't beat a Glock for LE application. Then again it all depends on the individual. The M&P is almost identical in design to the Glock aside from the frame. I prefer the Glock reset trigger over any other trigger. It's what I have trained with and what I'm used to. The Glock is also very accurate among other thing's. I will say this, the S&W M&P is more comfortable to hold then the Glock.  

I'm partial towards the glock, but the M&P does have its benefits, such as the interchangable grips. I do favor the trigger reset on the glock, as well as the weight. From those I know who have the M&P, they love it. They did have a lot of trouble finding a good holster for a reasonable price for the M&P. Holsters for the glock are everywhere.

Austin PD just went with the M&P 40 as their standard issue.  I have several friends on APD, but haven't had a chance to get their take on it.

Here in oklahoma I havent heard anything bad about the M&P everyone that has one loves them. I carry the glock 22 for now I'm  going to be switching for the glock 21sf when I get the money. Next choice would be the M&P.  I had a SW Sigma 9MM when going through the academy and the damn gun broke. Glad it was on the shooting range and not on the street. Thats why I dont want to mess with S&W again. Glocks are too powerful at this point you cant go wrong with them. Another thing about glock is, holsters are easy to find. My PD got the Springfield XD and had to wait along time for holsters to be made. Glocks you can simply go to the store and pick one up!

You're comparing to apples to oranges and asking which is better...

My question, though, is why just those two guns? Why not also look at the Springfield XD?

 

FYI, I own a G22 and an XD...and I cannot pick one over the other, they both have their pros and cons.

I own a G35 & an XD-45. Both are GREAT guns.

The first hangun I bought was a smith&wesson m&p .40. I only had the gun for six months before the finish started to rust. I cantacted S&W and they said that they were having a problem with the finish holding up to the weather in the coastal states. I traded the S&W in on a GLOCK 22. I have had the glock over a year and have not had a problem with it thus far.

I feel the M&P is a bit more comfortable in the hand compared to the glock.  Glock, however, has been around for a while and is more reputable in the LE world...at this point.
