| Posted 8 months ago We have to have a minimum of three dispatchers between 3am & 11am (2 PD & 1 Fire/EMS) and normally four or more at all other times. We are the PSAP for the entire county of approximately 104,000 people. We work five - 8 hour shifts: 7a-3p, 3p - 11p and 11p - 7a. POLICE: We have a minimum of 6 officers & 1 supervisor on the streets at any given time. However, that number can rise when you start adding our motor officers (up to 8), Special Operations (up to 5), Lake & Park Police (up to 5) and Airport Police (up to 2). That is not counting if we have officers working schools (up to 7 normally) or any special events. We are also the back up dispatch for the City Marshals (up to 8) when their dispatch is not working. Also, we may have detectives or narcotics officers out at any given time. FIRE (City): Inside the city we have 8 stations (including a dual purpose station at the airport), running 7 engines, 1 quint, 1 rescue, 1 batallion chief and 4 ambulances. We also have three reserve engines and six reserve ambulances. The fire trucks cover inside the city only, while the ambulances cover the entire county. FIRE (County): We dispatch for 10 primary Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as 1 VFD/EMS that is called only when requested (as a back-up) by another VFD. MISC: We also answer after hours calls for animal control as well for other departments that the public can not find the direct number for. |

| Posted 8 months ago I dispatch for one town that has its own PD/FD/EMS. At the begining of this year our Police frequency was taken over by the county dispatch. Before that though, we were the only department in the county that had their own dispatch center, including fire and ems. At that time also we had 1 dispatcher per shift, but shifts overlapped an hour or so and if you were busy, you stayed till it slowed. There were always at least 3 road officers on duty. However, we no longer do PD, but we do fire and ems, we have 2 fire stations in town, and we also have automatic responses with 3 neighboring agencies in the next county up because they do not have paramedics. |

| Posted 5 months ago When fully staffed we have 2 per 12 hour shift (6-6) and one supervisor split bewteen them, and we all report to a director/LT There are 12 of us total. Each shift of deputies has 6 on the road (LT, SGT, and 4 deputies) on the same 6-6, plus two zone deputies per rotation that work either 8a-8p week days or 3p-3a on Fri, Sat, and Sun. We also dispatch all the small one or two horse agencies in the county, and they usually have one working at a time in the towns they cover. Our local troopers (NCSHP Troop A, District 6) cars have our freq in their radios, and are dispatched primarily by their dispatchers at Troop A headquarters in Williamston, NC but can be sent by us in an emergency. We also have all the volunteer FD/Rescue depts in the county except the City of New Bern or City of Havelock.
Right now (at 0445 hrs) I am sitting here all by myself...... |

| Posted 5 months ago We generally work a shift of 3 dispatchers. Sometimes we have as many as 4 or if we are short and someone works a split, we have 2. We usually have 7 deputies, but we also dispatch for 3 police depts that sometimes have as many on as 7 (total betwn the 3). We have 7 ambulances (5 districts) and 12 fire depts (14 districts) we also dispatch for. At night it is not too bad most of the time. Daytime thru the week we have admin, jail staff, investigators, drug task force, civil, volunteer, school resource and so on. We also take after hours animal control and city maintenance calls for several cities. Someone else does our crimestoppers line now, thank goodness! In God we trust...all others checked thru NCIC. |

| Posted 5 months ago Our minimum staffing is 6 dispatcher per shift. We are currently budgeted for 41 dispatchers...this does not include teletype or 9-1-1 operators. This is just dipatchers. We currently are understaffed with 31 dispatchers. We need 10 more yesterday. We are trying to add another ten for a total of 51. Our radio traffic gets unbelievable at times. Like everywhere else feast or famine. But if you took the deputies logged on during a dayshift period and divided them among the 5 operational patrol channels you would have aprox 75 units per dispatcher. Our total budgeted comm ctr staff is about 165 to 170. |

We work dispatch alone, usually have two to three officers per shift. We're small, and I love that. Have of course worked at agencies that were supposed to have two on during shift, but usually ended up alone with 2 to 3 deputies, plus 1 to 2 officers per 3 pd's and of course fire and ems. I do not go where the path leads. I instead, create my own path...and leave a trail. |
