Posted 3 months ago Should Security Officers be armed?

| Posted 3 months ago There are 2 different commissions available to security in my area: Armed and Unarmed, often referred to as Officer (armed) and Guard (unarmed) KCPD sets the standards for what you can carry, and qualifies the armed officers. I think if a Security officer carries a gun, he/she should be able to carry whatever else they can get training on, such as OC, baton, or taser. They are all less lethal tools. Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. St. Francis of Assisi |

| Posted 3 months ago I agree. Thank God that I am a LEO, as well as doing VIP / Private Security and my CSI training and working as a CSI. I was trained by another "Agency" in combat techniques (CQB), martial arts, as well as being a sniper. Any training any officer can get they should grab, not only does it improve the "Survival rate" it also shows if you do have an OIS

| Posted 2 months ago Security officer should definitely be allowed flashlights and walkie talkies as standard issue. Everything else needs to be case by case depending on the field of security. Obviously your brinks, wells, loomis, fargo type of folks need to be armed. But the guy down at the mall absolutely not unless he is a prior LEO. PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY! |

| Posted 2 months ago There are also some private companies, such as Wackenhut and others, that perform security at high risk, high security installations. Granted, they generally recieve a considerable amount of training, depending on the assignment. Many stateside military posts are also hiring private security to work the gates and other entry areas. They are generally armed. Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy |

| Posted 2 months ago ccso8462 said: This is a great concept and I for one would love to see it used as a national standard. I have worked with many good security guards that do a great job in their limited abilities. I have also worked with some really really crappy armed security personnel that I wouldn't want in the same STATE as me with a firearm.... Training and Standards are the key. Stop and consider that not all that long ago (in the grand scheme of things) there wasn't any formal training for police officers especially in rural areas, it was here's your badge & gun go keep folks safe... Times change and both Sworn Police Officers and Private Protection Agents need training, face it even with a six month long police academy, rookies are still in a "learning" mode after graduation...
