This may sound like a silly question to ask, but in the past I never came across this issue in my department, however since 911 it has become a huge problem. How does one run a foreign license plate check from places like Egypt, Iraq, Bosnia, Rome etc?

Are you trying to run a foreign drivers license or a foreign license plate?

Foreign Drivers License is what I,m trying to run. I had never done it before and now we keep getting them on a regular. Problem is procedure is not familiar to anybody in our department so pretty much I,m asking for my own records.

Based on the countries of origin, I suggest you contact your local FBI office...

You should also properly introduce yourself in the "Introductions" forum...

The layout of the plates in DC is either a D (diplomat) or S (staff), followed by the country code, followed by a three-digit number (for example, S FC 001). In New York, it's the other way around (001 FC S). The reason for this is that some countries are limited to a fifty-mile radius from their embassy or consulate, so the authorities have to be able to tell the two cities apart. All their LP's are coded by country origin.

Remember, the International Driver's License must be showed to the police officer in any country with your Original Driver's License, because the International Driver's License is issued based on your Original Driver's License and you do not have to take any test to receive it

I wouldn't trust a cheaply-run commercial Internet site to conduct a proper drivers license review...

Check with your local Federal agency...they handle these issues on a daily basis and can instruct Law Enforcement Agencies {FBI or ICE}.

The easy answer is Interpol, but if your on a traffic stop your not going to get a response before you have to let them go. There is no automated way for us up in dispatch to run a out of country DL or plate (except Canada).

don't try to check with INS or ICE either. they can't check an international DL even if it is conected to a green card or passport

The only way we are able to run an international license is to teletype Interpol. Contact your Department of Law Enforcement help desk and ask for Interpol's ORI ~ the request is a simple teletype but the response is not instant. If your officer is on a traffic stop you may want to let him/her know that...
