Posted 5 months ago It is a sad state of affairs that Police Officers are needed in schools. It is a prime example that the system is breaking down. In my day, the nuns handled everything! Being a Tyrant does not make one a Leader!

Posted 5 months ago I AGREE THAT IT IS SAD THAT WE NEED POLICE OFFICERS IN OUR SCHOOLS BUT I'M GLAD WE HAVE THEM. IT GIVES ME A JOB AND MAKES ME FEEL SAFE SENDING MY KIDS TO SCHOOL.

Posted 5 months ago This day and time, school police are needed. Im not sure who wrote it, but google "Sheep, Sheep dogs and Wolves". It give a perfect explanation of why we exist.

Posted 5 months ago I also agree that it is sad that we are needed in the schools for protection, but it is nice that some of the kids see us as a person and not just someone that comes to their house and arrests their parents.

Posted 5 months ago It IS sad that SROs are needed.Back in my young days,it was parents who jerked a knot in the tail. Now a days, the SRO is sometimes the only authority figure in a childs life, other than school admin.People expect the welfare system and schools to take care of everything..BS is what it is.

Posted 5 months ago ok, theres a bunch of new rules coming out trying to protect kids rights and such --lot of rights coming into question: unreasonable search and seizure (that was taken care of in TLO v. New Jersey) and protest (Tinker v. Des Moines) however depite these cases, new rules have come into play like the SRO cant search without contacting a parent, but the administration can...etc...

Posted 5 months ago sjabee said: Not true although the administrators prefer to have the parent there with their consent SRO's have the same authority as any school official and only need reasonable suspicion vs probable cause unlike most city police officers do, but you're right we like to try to cover our bases by making sure the parents are on board anyways.

Posted 5 months ago ODIN said: California... our state law states that if the officer works for the school district police department or if the officer is a city or county officer assigned to the school they fall under school officials who only need reasonable suspicion. i have yet to have a case thrown out of court for a reasonable suspicion search I did on an adult or a juvenile. Perhaps the laws in your state are different I just have more tools at my disposal.
