A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is

someone who, at one point in their life, signed a blank check made

payable to "The United States of America " , for an amount of "up to

and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many

people in this country who no longer understand it.

As a veteran of over 20 years I appreciate each and every individual word of appreciation. At least todays military is recognized by many people, not like us Viet Nam vets in 60's and 70's

Thank you for your appreciation that's why it is so difficult to see people like Cal_Law in here posing he disrespects everyone that is a real veteran and served with integrity, a trait which he does not possess.

I respectfully request Nikk and Henry be brought back as moderators please.

It really is appreciated and I am so glad to see that almost everyone now appreciated our military and honors them the way they should. I too am a Vietnam Vet and feel like the way we were treated was worse than disgraceful. At the very least we were ignored if lucky but more often than not we were called names and treated like we were the scum of the earth and those stories of being spit on and called baby-killers were not just stories, they really did happen. For me it was a pretty young woman who had a pretty little girl that I spoke to and she spoke back. The woman called me a baby-killer and told her daughter she should never talk to these bad men in uniform and then she actually spit at me. I was stunned as I was proud on my uniform and my patriotism. USN 1968-1975 was all I could handle. J. Carter turned his back on us so I turned my back on him and left when my re-enlistment was up. My brother remained and served 28 yrs retiring at E-9. My Daddy served the USN in WWII and had his ship blown out from under him in Okanawa and my Granddaddy in the Army in WWI in the French trenches and won the Bronze Star as did I.

Took my many, many years to even say I was a Vietnam Veteran because of how we were treated but I am and always will be proud to say I served.

Well, RetiredCop, we were the ignored. We came back from korea's Police Action (War) and nobody noticed our return. Does not matter, I didn't join the Army then to receive accolades.

I did what I felt was right. I guess those against the war did what they feel right. What we did was give them the right to protest by making the sacrifice while they did nothing but bitch.

Please check out this site.  What a great way to say "Thank You" to the wonderful young men and women who continue to volunteer in service to this great Nation.  We owe a debt of gratitude to veterans that can never be repaid.

I have had people buy my lunch to which I initially explain that I did not join for any special favors. Then if they insist I will allow it. Most are retired vets themselves trying to show the support they never recieved.
The most moving thing to hear is just a simple Thank you. When they look you in the eye and say it like they really mean it. Everytime I hear it I have a hard time responding.

For my Vietnam era brothers man I am sorry you were treated the way you were.
