Posted 5 months ago Can anyone share info. on both the Homestead PD and St. Petersburg PD ? Im very interested applying to eith Agency . Are either agency worth the time to process with ? all infomation on the good , bad and ugly is welcome or advice on better agencies to reply....?? Thank You Vicente |

| Posted 5 months ago I live in Florida and I'm currently going through the Process with Miami Dade. I can't speak for St Pete, but Homestead is WAY south in Miami and very rural. It is loaded with Mexicans and other hispanics so if you don't speak spanish, learn! Also, you will deal with some pretty nasty stuff down there as these people are very poor and typically not very sanitary or respectful. I know a couple Homestead guys that were trying to transfer in the same orientation that I was at. As for other Departments in this area: Davie, Fl is hiring, but only have 12 spots. They are a GREAT agency in a GREAT community. Pay is $48,000 start. Ft Lauderdale is also hiring but they get alot of complaints from senior officers about a lack of advancement and benefits, however, its a good place to get your foot in the door. Broward Sheriff is hiring as well, a large class, and they're another great department to work for. I live in the south tri-county area (west palm beach, broward, miami-dade). Broward and WPB are by far safer than Miami and cleaner. If you have any other questions, just message me. |

| Posted 5 months ago Stay away from St. Pete. They have a lot of internal problems and from what I hear is the managment won't back you. I heard the other day that Pinellas county SO probally will take over clearwater within 10 years. If your looking for a sponsership I suggest Applying to Hillsborough SO. We are down about 125 deputies and you get paid while attending the acadamy. We are selective when it comes to our Deputies though. |

| Posted 5 months ago I live in Port St.Lucie and am currently pursuing a career in law enforcement . I currently am taking online classes in criminal justice and have already started the prosses to become employed in the martin county corrections dept. I have taken the fbat and cleaned it up with a 94% the only other thing I had to do was the physical portion of the test and a drug test but since the market went south I have gotten no where. Are there any other departments that are hiring out there or does anyone know when they will lift the hiring freeze in my area? |

| Posted 5 months ago You can put yourself through the academy in Florida. Down here in Broward if I'm not mistaken they ask for you to have a sponsor. I know Hollywood and Pembroke Pines have been hiring good agencies...family at both. I know Davie and Ft. Lauderdale are hiring have friends at both hear good things about Davie. BSO is but I hear alot of good and bad about them from friends. |

BSO has had some internal issues, with Ken Jenne going to jail and all that, but I think for the most part its a good department. Largest sheriff's office in the country I believe.
I'll take anything right now though. It seems so hard to get hired yet all you hear is that "we're desperate for police officers". What a catch 22!
