i recently checked out these search websites and we are all on it and can be found. this is B.S. the job we do is hazardous enough; now some pissed off adam/henry or someone who just got released form the local puzzle factory can kill you!

It was sent out a while ago about zabasearch.com also. I looked and sure enough, I was on there for addresses clear up to when I just turned 18... I emailed them and though my supervisor said to tell them you are LEO, I didn't say anything because for all I know, there's a LEO finder for the hoodrats out there that we don't know about yet. It took a few tries via email but eventually, my info disappeared and has yet to reappear there.

I think it should be against the law, but that's the world we live in today. I also feel that if you find a perp that is goal oriented enough and has a "Nothing" to lose mindset - we'll be having a bad day anyway....there has been officers and family members killed in the past for following them home. I think it is more realistic that someone watch your house or follow you home than look ya up on the internet.....I would actually be more nervous that they would go to the site and get my information for their "NEW CREDIT CARD...." knowing that a police officer usually (on average) has good credit... I don't mean to sound light-hearted on the subject, but after you have a few rounds thrown at ya, you realize that we all have a number coming and it's just a matter of when....(II Timothy 2:3) <--- my favorite for cops... (that's how I deal with it anyway)

thanks for the info. you need to go to these sites and input your name and then print the page with your info out(this is the free sneak peak page; do not pay). Next go to the bottom of the page and click on "help" then go to the line that says "remove my info". you may have to fax or mail a letter to extract info. i was told by a very nice lady from one of these search sites that if you send a copy of your police Id(black out your city and number) they make certain it gets done asap.

It is amazing how easy it is to obtain people information now. In the county I live in, there is a website that the county runs that posts all your information if you own a house. It shows your address, title to the house, how much you paid for the house, and other information. There is also a website that shows how much money each police officer and any other public employee makes each year. It's a shame that we all have to watch our backs when walking in our own driveways.

Most, if not all, of this information is public record. It always has been, it just used to require more effort to get it. I think with the increase in abuses of the information as it becomes more readily available will eventually lead legislators to revisit what should be made public and what shouldn't.

There are so many ways to track a person down now through public records. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about it. Fortunately, it's almost unheard of for a criminal to target a cop or his family by going to their home.

I have a few suggestions that might help in this subject. Use a cell phone instead of a land line as "almost" all of the search sites use public telephone records to post your name and address (having an unlisted number does not always work). If you have a land line, have the bill sent to a PO Box. Also use the PO Box for all utility bills, vehicle registration, vehicle registration, drivers license address, bank statements, car insurance, credit card and cell phone bills. It is "almost" impossible to find a persons physical address if they have a PO Box. Most post offices have security cameras and most PO Boxes can usually be accessed 24 hours a day. PO Boxes are also a must have if you order products online or use E-bay so you are not displaying your home address.
Don't have the phone (land line) and utility bills in the police officers name. Don't take the same route home from the station. Don't get into the same daily routine that people watching you can figure out. And don't forget that officer safety also applies when your off duty.
Stay safe and let's be careful out there !!!!!

Aircode3, Great advise !!!!!! Ive been doing that for about 5 yrs now. And you can even request that the post office not place any junk mail in your box. Believe it or not, it saves alot of time and aggravation in many aspects.

Welcome to the future. I don't think no one wants their names all over cyber space but it's there. The only way you may beable to limit how much information that's on you is to get a P.O. Box and have your Number unlisted, it may help.

As aicode3 said, "Don’t get into the same daily routine that people watching you can figure out. And don’t forget that officer safety also applies when your off duty. Stay safe and let’s be careful out there !!!!!" I learned this in the Marine Corps pre 9-11 and especially after. I try to maintain enough space in between cars at stop lights so I have an out, and look to see if I am being followed home. I am an unarmed Community Service Officer, yet deal with evidence, transport, and DNA on an almost daily occasion. If there's no evidence, no way to prosecute. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get my CC firearms permit for my wife and I to have. My co-workers see me as a crazy former Marine, but I've been there done that and they've been civvies their whole career. Am I being paranoid?

There is a website that you can pay like 25 bucks or something to and they send you pre printed letters to the companies like, Zabba Search to have them remove your imformation from these search sites. I will try and find the link. Of course for the life of me I can't remember what it is, I will research it and post it up for people. Stay Safe.

Hi
Idealist here, long time no see

I was always trying to keep a low profile, and I am not LEO, my Father ( sperm donor ) has been trying to track me down, for what reason I can not imagine.

And he found me after 20 years, I must have slipped somewhere

Oh well, that is what 911 is for, when you are threatened in your own house ( from the unwelcome outside )

In this age of free flowing information and the mighty WWW, we find ourselves in a fight to keep our security from thoses who would like to do us harm. I think that everyone in the GWOT field need to try to get together and brainstorm to try and minimize the danger to us.

Not really crazy about the systems that we "live in each" day...but can't do much about it...soooo I try to "school my kids" on safety, strangers, etc and I'm always looking over my shoulder...sitting with back to the walls, and "packing"....so let them bring it on cause the good times WILL ROLL.....

I dislike this greatly. Just to see how far I could go, I looked myself up, found my address and phone number listed, and used a satellite map to zoom in on my street. I was clearly able to see my car parked in front of my house. Its bullshitenous.

This is some funny shit!

All the more reason to keep my home protected and remain armed when off duty.  Also a great chance for me to explain to my children that some people in society will hate us just because of what I do and who we are....

This info has been out there for years but it don't make it right to make it so available to just anybody. How about some right to privacy.

theres not much you can do to prevent some form of information getting out...so I make sure I have weapons avalible at any given time..Have a dog with a "who the F*%# are you?" bark...alarm system..they can cut the phone lines but still gonna draw attention..try to never leave or come home at the exact same time ..etc etc. I do a lot of little things at home and out in town when I'm off to protect myself and family...it dont take a whole lot of effort....but it does take a bit of tactical thinking.
