| Posted 5 days ago I dont think you'll have much luck with donated "used" vests strictly from a liability aspect (shelf life of manufacturer etc...) but I believe there are some Gov. grants available. Id look into that avenue first. |

| Posted 5 days ago Mike, Here's a couple of ideas.... Try checking around with some of the larger departments in your area...either for "hand me downs" or your department might be able to do a "piggie-back" order for vests with another agency for a lower price. Lobby the Risk Management division of your agency's local government to acquire them as standard SAFETY equipment and show the cost benefits for the price of a vest compared to medical expenses for injured/killed officers... Organize a "quiet" public safety drive to help fund the vests with donations... many in the community might donate, but don't want too much noise to let the badguys know that officers could be at risk... Another Mike. |

| Posted 2 days ago This sounds harsh but, buy it. When it comes down to it, it is a few hundred bucks for your life. How much would you pay to live and go home to your family? It's a bargin if you ask me. Call the companies and see if they will give you a group or department discount. All in all it is worth every penny. Good luck! |

| Posted 2 days ago I just saw this on another site. You may be able to get your vest from this program. You can get a hold of me and I will let you know where I saw this.
Free Vest, "National We Care Foundation"
<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> Has anyone used the "National We Care Foundation"? They give smaller Departments Deputies and Officers Vest (Safariland G Zero Armorwear). The way it works you send a letter into the foundation and they Draw an Officer or Deputy a day, or every couple days. If your drawn your given a free bulletproof vest.
I sent a letter in about three months ago and I got a letter about a month ago saying I was chosen to receive a vest. I got my vest today and it looks really nice. The sides on the vest are even adjustable where I was able to make it smaller so it fit better. I was also able to pick what color of vest I wanted. From what I was told by my sheriff the way the program is setup once you leave your agency you take the vest with you, its yours. If anyone is interested in this program drop me a note and I'll give you their contact information. |
