| Posted 2 months ago You can carry across state lines into states that do not have reciprocal agreements for civilian CCW, and you can carry in states that do not issue CCW permits to their residents. Here in Missouri, I take it that my ability to carry off-duty allows me to disregard the signs posted in businesses that say "No Weapons" since they relate to CCW permit holders, not officers. There still seems to be debate about whether or not you can go into a school with your gun, but I ignore that, too. Also, Federal property, including National Parks, is disputable, and while I would probably carry in a Nat'l park, I would not try to enter a Federal bldg. with my sidearm. When I enter a county courthouse, I identify myself and they give me access to the lock boxes, but that really has nothing to do with HR 218. I think the jury is out on some aspects of the law until an individual case crops up, at which time the interpretation is up to the guys in the black robes, and we all know that can be good or bad.
also, you have a HR218 card? Never heard of one. What is it? Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. St. Francis of Assisi |

| Posted 2 months ago Never heard of a HR218 card....this federal law allows active and retired law enforcement officers that are with a county, city or state agency to carry nationwide. The retirees are required to qualify at least once annually and show proof that they have qualified yearly to be able to carry. |

| Posted 2 months ago I recently had to do my yearly 218 Qual and was issued a certification card issued by a federal firearms instructor, that says I qualified in a Police course of fire on this date, and it is good for one year. I sent a copy of the letter...(I got a letter too) to my Range Master at the PD I worked for in Texas. They have to have it on file there because that is where I had my commission and where I retired from. |

| Posted 2 months ago We were issued new ID cards, with something to the effect on the back that said..... "This person is authorized to carry concealed weapons, pursuant to HB 218. To confirm the officer status send a teletype to ORI blah, blah or call...." I guess this helps those jurisdictions that hate regular citizens and cops alike, who like to carry for self defense. |

I like this idea, because I know there are places in the US that think they belong to the USSR or something, they way they treat citizens, even LEOs. I guess some folks just didn't get the memo. Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. St. Francis of Assisi |

| Posted 2 months ago If certain key politicians had their way, the HB218 law would be lifted and trashed. If that ever happened, I would assume many LEOs would get Concealed Handgun Permits if they wanted to visit neighbor states since many states don't recoginize neighbor jurisdictions, other than prisoner transports. |

| Posted 2 months ago One of our retired officers asked me about the 218 card. I had to call standards and get the run around after talking to about six different people I finally got an answer. I have to take this retired officer to the range and run him through the qualification course and send in a form with his score and all his information and weapon information then the state sends me a card with the information on it saying he can carry under 218. In my opinion this retired officer should not have to go through all that. The ID card that says he is a retired officer should be enough, but noooooooo! some politician and lawyer says that a retired officer in good standing has to meet a higher standard. Sorry jsut had to vent a little bit. If any Arkansas firearms instrutors need any information on this contact me before you call standards and get a run around. Be safe all. |
