Used to have some 9MM until it was banned by the department. "Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." - George S. Patton |

| Posted 2 months ago Winchester Ranger SXT, Ranger Talon or whatever the Ranger series calls itself now is pretty much the same projectile. I read an article not long ago that the latest and greatest Ranger/Talon projectiles are better than the first generation Balck Talons. If the actual Black Talons are used on a person I could see an attorney make a big stink about it in court. Yep, that's the stuff. Carry it in my off duty Glock 27. Go out today and preach the gospel, and if you must, use words. St. Francis of Assisi |

| Posted 2 months ago I have some black talons, but the black talons had separation issues, I witnessed first hand the jacket separate from the core of the round that was used in an OIS, stick with Ranger SXT, black talons has a bad history all the way around. |

| Posted 2 months ago Ranger SXT is the new version of the black Talon. It was taken off the shelf for reputation and problems as Odin stated. t never really went away it just was marketed under a few differnt names and a few design changes. I think the new design has a partition in the core to keep it from seperating from the jacket and a more aggresive serration on the outer edge of the hollow point, I think thats right. Odin did you wittness this when you capped a troll? Still need protection? |

| Posted about 1 month ago Winchester Ranger SXT-same bullet(albeit the color), same performance. Believe it or not the color of the "black" talon caused the race card to be thrown in several cases. Go with the new stuff. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Black Talon was discontinued quite a while back. It's a good collector's item It has already been mentioned. Winchester SXT (stands for Supreme Expansion Technology) or Federal HST are today's replacement for the old Black Talon. Why? There is more technology built into the SXT and HST that is absent in the BT. It is a far more reliable round with regards to trauma components and bullet technology. I recently spent some time discussing these aspects with a top ballistics criminalist who's sole purpose in life is to research OIS's, ballistic performance and post shooting assessments. Interesting comment the criminalist offered. He said some doctors were actually getting cut from the petalled edges of the expanded BT round. I handled an expended round and can verifiy that each petal was virtually razor sharp, thus providing immense collateral damage. The newest rounds still maintain this edgey damage potential. | Posted about 1 month ago I am very familiar with the BT and new sxt's, to include version 2 of the sxt. I have no intention of using the black talon in any of my guns. I have heard that the black coating on the old BT was a lubricant of some sort so that the bullets wouldn't wear out the barrel. Great postings and info. Thanks. By the way, does anyone have a law enforcement supplier that I can get some of the version 2 Ranger T-Series ammo from? I have only one and he is waiting for .40 S&W T-Series. The website is M.A.H. He carries a lot of it in different calibers. So if your looking, check him out. Oh, and just incase your wondering what a box of .45 cal Black Talon is going for, Mike at M.A.H. is selling a box for $85.00.

| Posted about 1 month ago I remember hearing guys back in Kansas talking about BT's back in the day. All they could tell me was that the rounds were pure devestation to the shootee. Could somebody tell me what specifically make them and the newer rounds special? Is it the sharp edges after expansion? I'm a noob on this subject, lol. |
