Charger vs: Crown Vicks

Posted 3 months ago I would like to hear from all the men and women that drive the Chargers now, that has started in a Crown Vick. I want to know if you think that they'll hold up like the Crowns have for so many years. OK Fire Away Greg |

| Posted 3 months ago I think that they are a much better police unit than the CV's and they will do very well. I still have a feeling that if Carbon Motors gets going they would soon be the only manufacturer of police vehicles. Check out their unit at www.carbonmotors.com |

| Posted 3 months ago The chargers are fast and cool looking but thats as far as I would go. Being that I'm currently a Village Cop I wouldn't benefit from the Hemi. The first thing I noticed on the chargers is less interior room compared to the vic, especially the trunk. I'm smaller in size so for me that wouldn't matter anyways. The Crown vics are fast and handle well for a larger car, they are true "cruisers". My crown vic is speed limited to 130 and get's there plenty quick. I have driven everything offered in a police package / special service package and the vics meet my needs very well. Rumor has it the vics may have the 5.4 liter triton V-8 in 2009 available to LE only. If my deptartment had a charger I would drive it but only to see how long it would take me to blow the transmission. The funny part about this is I'm not even a Ford fan. But when it comes to LE application, these cars are king and in my opinion will stay king especially if a 5.4 Triton V-8 is ever offered. The one bad thing about these cars is the gas mileage sucks. If gas prices stay the way they are we may all be driving highbrids, how's that for a thought =)...........My 2 cents. Get a Glock and loose the nickel plated sissy pistol.

| Posted 3 months ago I'm a CV Fan. Tried the Charger, my 6'5" frame just doesn't fit well. I'll stick w/ yjr CV. |

| Posted 3 months ago Crown Vics are tried and true. they do stand up to the rigors of our work. I have driven a charger and I am very impressed. Other than the trunk space, I loved it. Even without the Hemi, the Charge it's plenty fast and gets there pretty quick. I can handle anything that life throws at me~ I may not be able to handle it well, or correctly, gracefully, with finesse, or expediently ~ But I will handle it. |

Dawg, how does the back seat room compare with the CV with the cage installed? My dept is considering the Chargers. They told (us) to open up the Embassy, or "we'll blow you away." And then they looked up and saw the Marines on the roof with these really big guns, and they said in Somali, "Igaralli ahow," which means "Excuse me, I didn't mean it, my mistake".

| Posted 3 months ago If Ford would put the 3 valve 4.6 ( rated at 300 hp) into the Vic, it would be just great. No need to bump up to the thirstier 5.4 engine. Consider that a full size sedan with all of it's police equipment and is only powered by a small 281 cubic inch V8 is capable of 130 mph ??!! When the mid 60's Mustang came out , it had a 289 V8 , just a bit larger than the 4.6 ( 281 cubes) ! Of course the 4.6 is a Single Overhead Cam engine, has fuel injection and other factory mods but it is still a small engine and does well in a Vic.

| Posted 3 months ago Crown Vic is a tried and true patrol vehicle with more room than the Charger. Now I do like the Charger because it is fast off the line. I think the Charger would be a great interceptor for Highway Patrol & State Police agencies. Keep the Vic for local, county street duty. |

I cannot speak from personal experience on the cage. The only one charger we have is unmarked and is assigned to a detective. A department close to us, however have cages and they have replaced the rear seat with a hard plastic one. I haven't heard anything in favor nor against it from them. I can handle anything that life throws at me~ I may not be able to handle it well, or correctly, gracefully, with finesse, or expediently ~ But I will handle it. |

| Posted 3 months ago I think if we go to the Charger, it would be a fruitless effort for speed and performance(that we don't use/need anyway) becaues of the cheap fleet gas that seems to be water down! Even our new cars have very little get up and go. |

You need to have a Slick-Top and nothing more then a box or two of flares in the trunk and you should be able to hit 130 in a reasonable amount of time. Also, it depends on the rear end axle ratio. Those that were produced with the 3:27 rear end are capable of hitting 130 mph but those with a 3:55 rear end top out at 119 mph (but are faster off the line). Google search 2008 Michigan State Police Vehicle Evaluation Testing for further........... Get a Glock and loose the nickel plated sissy pistol.

| Posted 3 months ago I think if Dodge put their 4.7 265 hp V8 in the Charger , it would be a better competitor against the CV and wouldn't drink gas like the 5.7 does. |

Is there less room because of the package, or is there less room all around (as in stock)? Haven't been in a stock CV in a while, but I recently drove a Charger SRT-8 and was surprised by the amount of cabin space. The city CV's have just enough room to fit my big ass, so if the Chargers are that much smaller, it would suck for my future, lol. |

| Posted 3 months ago Its unfortunate that our local police chargers are only V-6's.....oh the complaints i hear from them when i talk to those who drive it. In Valor there is Hope |

| Posted 3 months ago I'm a Crown Vic gal myself. My force acquired a couple of Chargers last year, and I think they forgot to get the package that included BALLS! (pardon my French) I didn't like the slow heavy feeling when accelerating. As an aside, my force at one point decided to go to Impalas when I first joined (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!) You wanna talk about small, and forget getting 2 decent sized officers (Hell my coach and I barely fit and I'm only 5 ft 3) and all their gear into THAT car. Luckily they came to their senses before it was too late.... If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them. |
