Posted 27 days ago There are thousands of policebadges in hands of collectors and traded/selled every day - worldwide; Do you really think an Osama member will walk into a plane with a badge around his neck???

Posted 27 days ago Because sale of the shield in NY is illegal. NYPD officers must turn in shields when promoted or retiring, thus any NYPD shield in possession of anyone not an active NYPD member, is in fact a copy/duplicate which is also illegal in NY (unless permanently mounted on a gift plaque or similar item). NEW YORK STATE PENAL LAW S 190.27 Criminal sale of a police uniform.

Posted 27 days ago copy, but I see no problem outside NY

Posted 27 days ago Sale of a police uniform is a misdemeanor in the state of California and NO LAPD Badge is authorised for sale. So I would be interested in HOW you got a hold of these Badges in the first place?

| Posted 27 days ago I am located in germany which -so far I know- is not located in california (or NY)

Posted 27 days ago It matterrs not that your not in the state of California, just that your in posession of stolen or found LAPD badges and haven't attempted to turn them in. And that your now trying to sell them on the internet makes you guilty of recieving stolen property a misdemeanor, or felony in the California Penal Code, depending on how many you have. With all the complete idiots and crimminals out there? IP address and pictures of your face plastered all over the site, and your just begging to get a knock at the door? And if the LAPD and NYPD badges are real?? Kiss your Law Enforcement carreer Ba Bye. If your even a cop. My advice is that if these are even real and you have got them through less than legal means (or you just didn't know) you send them back to the Departments. If not, once our rat squad get a hold of this they will be salivating over finding out who's badge got stolen, what Copper sold his badge, and how they can find you. And those IA idiots are on this site too, so beware.

Posted 27 days ago I know Galls.com sells personalized and pre-made badges ranging from alot of Police Departments around the country, and I know of numerous NYPD and DCNY Officers who have 2nd badges (With the back stating they are fake tough) but I know it is extremly easy to get them. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" - Edmund Burke "You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth- and the amusing thing about it is that they are." -Father Kevin Keaney

All the concerns voiced over badges is well founded, though a badge itself means absolutely nothing without ID; which as we know can also be faked.
If some Mope flashes tin, I want to see a photo ID to go with it, that’s just the first step in verifying who they are.
There are numerous cases of wana bees and impersonators doing all sorts of nefarious things while posing as cops, the majority of these cases though are folks with security or generic shields.
Should it be easy to impersonate a cop or get ahold of the things that make it possible? YES, but in the same sentence, should cops be able to get a second badge (you get a major rip if you loose your issue shield at most departments, thus a second, while the issue gets locked away) I say yes also.
Should bona fide collectors be able to collect? if they are reputable and follow the cannons most collectors follow, sure.
A reputable dealer will verify that the receiver is on the job or an established collector, there are “ethics” for collectors, who in most cases deal with a closed community. Collecting badges is huge in Europe, they love American police memorabilia; thus the huge number of high quality copies.
Same applies to badge makers, most reputable firms require a copy of id and authorization on letterhead; these are for US Firms, though for those in Asia, not so hard to have a gross of federal shields duped.
When I was a municipal cop, to get a local badge was as easy as going into the local uniform shop and buying one, though times have changed, it is still easy.
For federal badges, it is a little harder but not impossible.
When it comes down to it, check them out. Educate the public along the same lines and when in doubt; call the Agency directly. There was a recent case where some Jerk rolled into a Midwest town and convinced the City that he was a Fed, credentials and all, even had his Wife answer the “office phone” to verify him, so even bright folks get taken.

Posted 12 days ago It used to be when I had the cash to collect these things, that these badges were real, but not issue ready for one reason or another. It's kinda like how Wal-mart gets brand name products, but is able to sell them really cheap. It's because there is somekind of minor production mishap that you don't really notice, but it's there. Some of these badges are real, but do not fit the standards of that agency for one way or another....so why melt down a finished product?? Sell them to collectors. Not only that, but all the Officers here in my area who want second badges must pay for them out of their own pocket.
