I assisted BSI Detectives on a traffic stop on 5/8/08 at New Tampa Hwy and Chestnut Rd, Lakeland with a narcotics sniff of a newer model 4-door Ford Focus. There was an alert to the drivers door and some Marijuana was found in the vehicle. The suspect has a history of drug trafficking and resisting arrest. He lives in Winter Haven of Ave K Northwest. During the search of the vehicle we noticed that the drivers seat cushion had been altered so that it could be pulled back. It revealed a location under the seat where a large handgun or narcotics could be stored. This compartment could be accessed while the driver was in the seated position. Pay close attention to the vehicles you search for officer safety. Be safe! Pictures are attached. Paul R.
