A bachelor's degree is never a bad thing.  A person with a Criminal Justice bachelors  degree in law enforcement will fit in.  However, we have people working in my agency that have psychology, education, agriculture, you name it degrees.  That isn't unusual, working in an area other than your major.

When it comes to promotion, we look at those degrees and decide that there are things basic to all of them that we can use.  Mainly critical thinking and the ability to learn.  Only about one third of the adult population has a bachelors, so getting one is a pretty big deal.

What I am concerned about for you is the school you are going to.  It isn't regionally accredited.  So say you decide to change schools because you change your major after taking a few classes.  Good chance your credits won't transfer.  Ditto for your degree being recognized if you decide to go for a Masters later on.  I haven't taken classes from ITT so I can't say anything about the quality of the school.  All I can tell you is that accreditation is a major issue if you decide to go somewhere else later on, or run into an employer that also thinks its a big issue.

Good luck!

I agree about the school you may be attending. I know that there are ITT Schools in Texas and they are not accredited. The Texas State Commission on Law Enforcement does not recognize it and nor does my agency. You would be better off starting at a community college and then transfering to a 4-year accredited college.

Good Luck!

Kaplan is supposed to be accredited.

I believe there are state universities with online programs but you might want to consider going to a state owned college that has an "academy" type program if possible.

Kaplan University is an accredited college. I am currently enrolled and have been for over one year. My major is criminal justice with focus in law enforcement.

10-4 on accredidatition. It doesn't appear that thy are accredited in which case most places wont except them. And if you notice the commercials don't show police officers they show security guards and dispatchers. Get out of there and into an accredited school.

Kaplan University is fully accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. (NCA).

You can go to a community college, get and associates degree and then tranfer to a 4 year school where most, if not all the credits are transferable. In my old department you got an extra 2 1/2% pay increase for an Associates and 5% for a Bachelors Degree.
