Remington .280, 140 grain hydro shock bullets.  In E. Texas, plenty big for the animals I hunt, deer and pigs

My two weapons of choice are my Hoyt V-Tec bow and my Model 70 Winchester 300 WSM.

I use a sweet Remington 700, 300 Ultra mag zeroed at 320 yards when I hunt in the Dakotas. My Minnesota deer gun is a Remington 760, 30.06 that I bought 30 years ago when I started to hunt - Old but always shoots straight.  I also use a 10 year old trusty PSE Mach IV bow. I use a Remington 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge for Pheasants and Ruffed grouse. My Trusty duck gun is a synthetic stock on a Remington 870 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge. Im kind of a Remington fan but I do own several Winchesters, Mossbergs and Savages.

Happy Hunting!

I pack a ruger M77 Mark II in 25.06.  I use 117 grain Federal Premium.  It shoots very flat and accurate.  It lacks the knock down of larger calibers.  I live in Montana and I hunt everything from coyotes to elk.  I can't affored several different rifles so the 25.06 is a good medium size that works for it all.  I just have to make good shots.

I reject your reality and submit my own.

Bmorgan, good call on the 25-06. It is a very under rated round. I use it in a Remmie 700, and at times also carry a 308 and 30-06 in the same.  Sometimes a short light 30-30 M94. I am lucky as carrying goes, when my farther died a few years back he left me a few more choices on what to carry the will always be here.

I use my 270 Remington Model 710 with 130gr Federal rounds. Where I hunt that is plenty good. I use that when I hunt in Bedford County. When I am in Appomattox I use my Golden Eagle over and under 12Ga with the Winchester #1 Buck shot.

The Colt .223 is a wonderful all around rifle.  The Ruger 6mm might pack more 'wham';  but is heavier to lug around.

I have many others but prefer the .223      The Colt AR-25 chambered for .223 is great--you can also get a .22 bolt for the Colt!

When I was young; all I was was my old Remington bolt action '06 wow what a cannon!

If you hit them in the right spot--thats all you need.
